The Taco Dive — Restaurant in North Township

My cousin came home from Florida & was so excited to have crispy tacos. We wanted a place close to home & definitely wanted to experience some Mexican Inn tacos. Honestly, very disappointed with our experience. We arrived around 6:30pm, waited max 20 minutes to order because we were waiting on family to arrive. While waiting, we were reminded twice that they closed at 8pm. Finally when everyone arrived we were told we have to pay & order at the register. Okay, cool. Orders were wrong when they arrived, we had to make 3 different debit card transactions to finally have dinner for the entire family. No apologies from staff, if anything the ladies working blamed us for not having the order right from the start, no discount was offered (not that money was the issue) it was just ridiculous that not an apology was given especially to first time clients. Overall, we spent easily over $200 dollars because we did have adult beverages, for unflavored chicken tacos, bad customer service, cold queso tacos, and a reminder of why sometimes you rather go to corporate restaurants. I'm all for supporting small businesses but I definitely don't see myself going back or recommending Taco Dive....

It's 3 of 5 for me cause there's good and then there's work to be done. The place looks good. It looks like it was decorated by Jimmy Buffett while drinking Corona. It's new, so it's clean... which is nice. But, of course, the taco is the thing when you put it in the name. The Crispy Beef taco was the suggestion I got, which was good. Basically a deep fried hard shell that makes it seem small. 3 for $8, not bad. Also got the Crispy Chicken, but it's missing something. Not bad, but... The Salsa, though. I was looking forward to having some fresh restaurant salsa to snack at home. What I got was Gazpacho... Tomato soup, which would've been good if I liked or wanted soup. I did not. But I was planning on making chili so it might save me a couple of cans of sauce. All in all it was good. The vibe is totally summer, but they were playing country music so I personally would get mine to go. But that's just me. They serve beer, which is good. I agree with the gentleman below about the food being overpriced and them charging for water! The food is good but its definitely overpriced.

Also there is no Guacamole available! The place serves some burrito with fries on it but wont serve guacamole, just seems like a bad joke.

After ordering drinks I asked for an ice water and I was told “Oh we dont do that here. Would you like to buy a water?” I said “I just bought 2 drinks! You really want me to buy a water?” This is Whiting, IN every restaurant in the history of ever in Whiting serves ice water, you should rethink that whole policy!

The first couple times I tried going they were out of food do to grand opening. The owner promised me more than once next time you come my first round of drinks would be on him. Never happened and a owner shouldn’t be making empty promises. Then on top you want to charge me for a ice water! Like I am in Lincoln Park. Wait every restaurant I have been to in Lincoln Park has ICE WATER!
