Byrd's Hot Chicken — Restaurant in Novi

Heard this spot was opening soon but didn't see that they had already opened until I saw it in the Door Dash app. We skipped delivery as I wanted to check it out in person so I stopped up last night to pick up some carryout for the family.

We ordered a couple Chicken Sandwhich combos (hot), with tenders (mild) and nuggets for one of the kids. Mac, fries, potato salad, and crispy green beans for sides. Everything was EXCELLENT. It was all cooked to order so it did take abput 10 minutes, which wasnt at all a problem. Arguably the best spicy chicken sandwich within a 20 mile radius and one of the best I've had in a long while. And that Byrd Bomb was sooooooooooo good too!

We had strawberry cake shakes and chocolate cake shakes as well, which were absolutle fantastic. Thick but not too thick and the Strawberry shake had chunks of strawberries in it.

While I was waiting, the guy that took my order came our from behind the counter and we had a nice chat. Turns out he was one of the owners, Sri, and it was great to see a small business owner rolling up their sleeves and working alongside their team. He offered me a soft drink on the house while I waited, and asked me to take home some of the extra sauces to try as well, and ended up giving us an extra side on the house as well. When our food was up, Sri introduced me to his business partner Syed, who helped me carry my food out and was about to help me carry it all out to the car had I not respectfully informed him even though it was a lot to carry, I appreciated the help but could handle it from there. Both owners were incredibly humble and thankful for our business.

I'd let the food talk for itself, but great customer service goes a long way. We will absolutle be back time and time again.

Really cool atmosphere for a fast-casual restaurant also.

Can't recommend this place enough. ...

We got takeout a couple days after the restaurant's official opening so they were running promos the entire week.

The day we went in they had a BOGO special on the wings, so we ended up getting one order of the plain wings and one with the mango habanero sauce.

The wing combo is advertised as giving about one pound of wings plus fries, so we got about 6-7 wings per pack, plus a decent amount of fries.

The wings themselves were fairly large. The plain wings had good breading and were crispy, but the mango habanero wings probably should have been double battered and refried since the sauce turned them soggy in just a couple mins.

The fries also weren't particularly crispy and it felt like they had been sitting out for a while before our order was ready, since they were already lukewarm and soft by the time we walked back to the car.

In case the owners are reading this, I've got a couple more suggestions.

First, you should consider offering the wings with the same spicy sauces that the tenders and sandwich come in. It's weird for the restaurant to be advertised for hot chicken but not offer it for the bone-in wings.

Second, I would offer at least one package of sauce with the combos. It's weird to offer fries but not include a sauce and charge extra for it. We got a couple sauces for free after asking, but it's something to consider providing.

Overall the food was decent but could be slightly improved. The service was good though somewhat slow since the staff is still new and getting used to things.

I'd definitely be interested in returning to try some different menu items...

Placed a decently sized order online for pick up ($85+), this was my first time trying this place after hearing great things. Went inside to grab the order and the employee checked each item I ordered and made sure it was correct. Little things like that alone says a lot about a restaurant, I cannot tell you the amount of times I went to a food place and got excited to bring the food home just to find out they screwed up my order or they forgot items. So that alone had me excited, came home and they did not mess up one thing, the quality of food is excellent and man are the portions huge. The chicken quality on both our tenders (ginormous tenders by the way) and the sandwiches were juicy, cooked perfectly, and not to mention really crispy (even the fries as well which always is soggy when I get takeout when I get home). The spice is great as well for the medium and mild, for sure if you’re a person who likes spice, this place knows what they’re doing. Shake was great as well and could taste strawberry chunks which I liked a lot. As someone who consistently likes to try new food spots and has had a fair share of chicken places, I’m glad this place opened up near me, because I’m coming back for sure.
