Kua Aina Sandwich Shop is a North Shore institution, and their pineapple burger is a must-try that truly lives up to the hype. This burger is out of this world, packed with flavor, and a perfect example of how Kua Aina transforms a simple dish into something extraordinary. The patty is thick, juicy, and grilled to perfection, with just the right amount of smoky char that adds depth and brings out the natural flavor of the beef.
But what really sets this burger apart is the fresh, caramelized slice of pineapple. It’s lightly grilled, bringing out its sweetness and adding a subtle tang that balances the savory beef in an unexpected and delightful way. Each bite is a burst of flavors, You get the rich, hearty taste of the meat, the brightness of the pineapple, and the crisp freshness of the lettuce and tomato, all layered together in perfect harmony. The pineapple doesn’t overpower but instead enhances every other element, tying the entire burger together.
The combination of textures is just as satisfying as the flavors. The juicy beef, soft bun, and slight crunch of the veggies, with the tender pineapple in between, create a dynamic, mouthwatering experience. Every bite is loaded with taste, from the first to the last, and the flavors come together seamlessly without a single ingredient feeling out of place. Kua Aina’s pineapple burger isn’t just a meal – it’s a truly Hawaiian experience, packed with bold, unforgettable flavors that showcase why this spot has earned its...
Read moreI recently visited this business for the first time thanks to a suggestion by Google. This location is next to Palama Market and it may be easy to pass if you're not really looking. There is little to no parking so we had to park on (what seemed to be) the side of the road near the bus stop. WARNING: There is no combo meal. You must order your burger/sandwich, Side, and drink ala carte. I ordered a burger with fries and a drink. We also ordered a side of coleslaw (seemed too small if you ask me), two (2) kid burgers and two (2) drinks. It was more than average for my budget, but it was my first visit so I thought I would try out what I wanted in case I didn't want to re-visit. There is inside and outside seating, but keep in mind that you are going to deal with many things when eating outside. I did not have to use the restroom during my visit, but I overheard that it was located outside. Not sure if you would need a code or key.
In regards to the food. . . My burger was good, but it was difficult to eat. I ordered a bacon burger with avocado. The avocado kept slipping out and it became a disaster by the time I got to the end (See pictures). I was also a little disappointed when I seen the fries because they looked a little unappetizing, but...

I was surprised when I found my food was not ready yet, but I was able to stand it. After waiting for 20 mins, and seeing ladies who had ordered after me got their food, I complained for the too long wait time. The employee never apologozed me and left dropping the tray with my food, which was truely rude. It seems like to me a racial freaking discrimination. It was a seriously unpleasant experience. If I have to evaulate the food I had, I had a half lb cheeseburger and a one third lb pineapple burger and a large fries. The burgers were never better than any burgers that I have tried at so-called popular places in NYC L, San Francisco, Las Vegas and so on. All I can make a compliment about is the size of the burgers, which was pretty big. The patties were not that juicy, and there is nothing unique or special. The fries looked like they tried to immitate In-N-Out's fries. In short, this places never deserve their reputation at all. I somewhat feel pity on Hawaiians who believe that this place has the...
