This is the first fast food that I remember having as a child. As teenagers, original locations were used as a local hangout. We would drive up and down the three lanes between the outdoor tables. The original restaurant in Oak Ridge, TN had the best food ever. After eating on Friday and Saturday evenings, we’d get in the car to slowly check out the customers outdoors then make the rounds at Shoneys to circle around the drive in. Occasionally we would see friends parked and we would pull close to their vehicle to chat a few minutes. Shoneys strawberry milkshakes were the bomb! The first McDonald’s location is where Walgreens resides today. McDonald’s no longer have the drive around outdoor tables, but have upgraded to drivethru’s for convenience, which is nice for our face paced society. However, I do wish my children could have experienced the great time of circling the two restaurants as most of my generation did. So much fun as a place to meet others from other schools within the surrounding communities!
Fast forward to the new McDonald’s in town. There is one on Illinois Avenue and newest one is right past the hospital on the east end of the Turnpike, beside the federal government building and across the street from Muncey’s Pharmacy and the Oak Ridge USPS, postal office. Both of these two locations continue to stay updated and the food is even better now.
Shoneys was closed for a long time In 2019 for remodeling and just recently showcased the new menu, dine in services, the building and sign upgrades. I have not had the pleasure of dining there yet. My parents are regular guest and...
Read moreWhen we arrived we used their new, self order machine. No issues with this. We paid, got a number and took a seat. We watched as six customers, who came in after us, received their food before us. My husband went to the counter and notified them that at this point we had been waiting for 20 minutes, 6 people had been moved ahead of us, and we would like our food. No one asked to see our receipt or tried to figure out what our food was. We assumed they saw our number that we had taken and knew who we were. One girl proceeds to come out to our table with two milkshakes as a peace offering. TWO! For five people. Three of which were children. So who do we decide gets these milkshakes?? My husband takes them back and tells them we don't want milkshakes, we want our lunch. We wait another ten minutes. 3 more customers are served, that came in after us. My husband goes to the counter demanding our money back. One of the employees tells him, as she points to another customer, "well she has your food". My husband told her "well she isn't with me!" Then the lady continues to tell him they were waiting on quarter pounders. We had not ordered a quarter pounder. We got our money back and left. I understand things happen. I have worked in food service in the past. But this was absolute terrible service. And then to top it off with lies and argumentative behavior. Unacceptable!! The manager on shift did do a good job of telling the employees to back off and promptly giving us our money back so we could...
Read moreI go to this particular McDonald's since I moved here atleast 3 times a week. (Since April) First let me say that the early morning WEEKDAY crew are great! They are quick, friendly, helpful and they give you a reasonable amount of condiments with your order. They always impress me because this is how it is routinely. On the other hand...the weekend crew is opposite. I've had to pull out of line and park while they got my order completed...I order the same thing almost every time and the price varies...then the order doesn't seem to be fresh, and that is often...plus I've only ever had problems with my app 2 times and both were here on the weekends and they were rude and hurtful about it, which is odd because it's their app...according to them app problems when you are ordering from them aren't their problem and you can either pay full price or go somewhere else which is what they told me...Anyway, that's the second time I've been treated that badly at that restaurant, I can't imagine that the owner would approve of being represented in that manner or I hope not. I haven't abused the app, I haven't cashed in any of my points so it's not like I'm getting a lot of "free" food, nor was I abusive to the employees even after they were so unhelpful and rude and mean. I asked to speak to the manager and she acted like I was trying to pull something, which I wasn't. That was an exercise in adding insult to injury. Don't go here on...
