My first time at Nation's. Good food, very friendly staff, but not great descriptions of what you are going to get. I got a standard cheeseburger, and the cashier listed the stuff on it including "dressing." I asked what the dressing was, and she said "a salad dressing." Guessing this would be 1000 Island dressing, I said yes to the dressing. There was no dressing, just a thick layer of mayonnaise. I hate mayo. That was definitely not on the list of ingredients she told me about. The burger is advertised on the menu as being a 3/4 lb burger. That is insanely big, but the actual burger was not nearly that large, more like a 1/3 lb. Very reasonable size, and reasonable price. I don't know what the label was talking about. Weird that a 1/4 pie is the smallest slice you can get. I wanted a burger and a thin slice of pie, but I ended up getting a burger and a thick slice of pie instead because that was what they sell. Both were very good. According to the menu, that was about 1400 calories, but I don't believe it. I know my own appetite, and I could not have eaten 1400 calories before noon and just strolled happily away. Perhaps a bunch of those calories were in the thick layer of mayo...
Read moreCool little burger joint. We were coming home from a late pickup at Oakland airport and we were looking for a late night place to get the kids a treat for a being so good on the drive down.
This place was recommend by another restaurant we stopped at that did not serve milkshakes. When we walked in the kids were excited to see a whole display or pies and treats. It was busy, even though it was late night, so the food took a long time to come out. But they quickly brought us our pies so the kids would be occuPIEd while we waited (pun inttended).
The sweets were great, and the milkshakes were delicious. Burgers were good too, but not exceptional.
My only complaint is that there was a large number of homeless/ vagrants in and around the establishment, which is always expected in Oakland and SF. But for some reason this place let's them mingle inside the restaurant. So that was a little bit scary with the kids running around. My kids are well versed in inner city travels, so they interacted fine with the many vagrants around. But if your family isn't used to it, maybe find another spot if it's...
