Goji in Ocean City isn’t the sort of place you stumble into looking for irony. It’s not the faded neon fried-dough joint, not the screaming boardwalk pizza stand. It’s something rarer—a quiet act of rebellion.
The açai bowls here aren’t health food in the sanctimonious sense. They’re a revelation. Cold, velvety purple fruit that doesn’t taste like compromise, piled high with bananas, berries, coconut, a drizzle of honey that feels almost illicit. It’s indulgence disguised as virtue, or maybe the other way around. A bowl you dig into with a plastic spoon, and suddenly you’re wide awake, sunburned, grinning, alive.
And the coffee—Christ, the coffee. In a town where “iced coffee” usually means burned diner drip poured over a plastic cup of cubes, Goji takes it seriously. Strong, dark, bitter in the right way, the kind of cup that cuts through the salt air and the sugar fog of the boardwalk. It’s coffee that respects you, that wakes you up without apology.
Together, the bowls and the coffee feel almost subversive in Ocean City. A one-two punch of clarity and pleasure in a place addicted to corn syrup and fryer oil. You leave Goji not weighed down, but lifted up, ready to walk the beach, watch the gulls, maybe even believe for a second that boardwalk towns can evolve.
Goji isn’t a trend. It’s proof that even amid the carnival chaos, someone still gives a damn about flavor, about quality, about doing things right. And that, frankly, is worth...
Read moreGoji has been open on Asbury Ave for a couple years now but I had never tried it until my girlfriend suggested we get juice for breakfast. Even though I feel like juice is a silly breakfast, I agreed and we drove in to town.
Inside, the place is spotless. I know it is new but they d a really good job of keeping the place clean. I have actually never seen it all that crowded and I wonder if it is the location or healthy nature of their fare that keeps people away.
I got a vegan granola bar and "Kooler" cold pressed juice. Both were really good and the juice came in a jar that can be returned for a discount on a future purchase. The granola bar was different but tasty. It was very crumbly so don't expect to eat it while walking or driving.
My girlfriend got a "Red" bowl that was big and seemed to be very filling. The food is somewhat pricey but you definitely get large portion sizes (of the food at least).
Hopefully, I will return. I am torn on whether I like having these new, upscale businesses in Ocean City. I certainly like having an upscale small business right in the heart of town, but I have a feeling that bougie places like this are a sign that rising price are here to stay in OC.
If you are a local, give this place a try! They also have...
Read moreI discovered this place today and had to share my experience. After debating what to get for lunch (everything is healthy and appealing!), I finally settled on a kale salad with beets, roasted sweet potato, and walnuts with a creamy Dijon dressing. For some reason, though, my credit card wouldn’t process. (I was on my bike and only put one in my pocket for the ride.)
The kind young woman said they had been having issues with the machine. After trying it herself several times, she went to talk to her manager. When she came back, she told me the salad was on the house! I said I couldn’t accept that, but she insisted. I ate it back at my rental house, and it was delicious! I plan to go back tomorrow for the food and the amazing hospitality....
