Hobby Horse Ice Cream Parlor & Cafe — Restaurant in Ocean City

We visited this ice cream shop over the Labor Day weekend. It was our first time going there and we will definitely go back.

My daughter has nut allergies and ice cream places can be a bit tricky. Every place has different ways of handling orders for people that have nut allergies. We were very impressed with how they handled the ice cream order for my daughter.

A fresh clean scoop was used to get ice cream from a fresh container of ice cream. A new sleeve of waffle cones were opened for the order. We often have to explain the precautions we'd like them to take but not this time. They knew the right way to handle the order. Thank you for understanding food allergies and the seriousness needed to protect the consumer.

Thank you for taking my daughter's food allergies seriously and going the extra step to minimize exposure. Food allergies are tough to navigate, everyone has their own comfort level.

Thank you for allowing my daughter the simple pleasure of enjoying ice cream without the added worries of a reaction. Please know we truly appreciate your care and extra effort that goes into serving up her ice cream.

BTW - she loved the smores ice...

On our 3rd attempt, we finally got waffle sundaes. One staff member even came over to complain how they had to mix the waffle batter as if we were inconveniencing them by ordering their menu item. The waffles were only partial and mine had the tiniest squirt of hot fudge, one dribble coming from underneath. His had even less of a smudge. They were a joke. We came here for years and it was his favorite thing here in ocnj. No more. We're giving our business to aunt betty now. What a shame.

Just made a second attempt which was another fail. Walked in at 11 for them to say they were closed.hours posted on the door say until midnight everyday! Poor management this year it seems. We're here the same weeks every year and never had a problem.

So it's fathers day and all my fiance wanted was a waffle Sundae here. Although they normally close at midnight, we come at 10:50 and find a sign they're closing at 11:30 today. OK, odd but no big deal until they tell us they're done with waffles today when we can see that the iron is still hot. Guess they just didn't...

After walking to the opposite end of town to the Johnny B Goods ice cream shop, which would not serve us ice cream even though it was supposed to be open for 10 more minutes, we only wanted 2 ice cream cones!! My friend called the owner of the Hobby Horse shop and they said they would stay open for us, so we walked to the other end of town, he had locked his door since it was past closing BUT he opened his shop and he scooped us our 2 ice cream cones to make our vacation day complete! One of the best places to go! Plus has a great photo opp. For you and your kids with the horse out...
