I had not been to Piccini’s in several years, and I was not missing anything. I am saddened, and disappointed, that I raved about what a wonderful place to eat this was to our family from Philadelphia, and we picked this for our Saturday night dinner. They were way over crowded, and under staffed. We waited over 20 minutes to get our order in, and over 30 minutes to get our entree, and we got a basket of cold bread while we waited. When it arrived, it was lukewarm. We paid over $30 for an entree that didn’t even include a salad or soup, or even warm bread, but even worse.. our $34 entree didn’t even come with a side of pasta. It was chicken picatta with lump crab meat on a plate. That was it. Period! Besides the cold bread of course. When we asked why we saw other people getting salad with their entree, our server told us it was upon request because too many people were getting a salad, and not eating it. After realizing no pasta came with the most expensive dish on the menu, we asked for a side of pasta with a fra diablo sauce, which was on the menu, we were told they could not serve pasta with that sauce?? Seriously? I was embarrassed that my family spent that much money on a subpar meal that was missing the things that are even included at Olive Garden or any other Italian restaurant. It’s a shame that people spend good money on cold bread and a plate of chicken with a few pieces of crab meat, and 3 spears of asparagus. Won’t ever be recommending, or returning back...
Read moreTwice to the rescue. My family and I have been to OC NJ twice now for family vacations and twice Piccini Pizza has been our go to place. The first time we had their pizza we were in town just for a day before moving on to the next destination. That evening a big storm came in, flooded a lot of the streets in the area and knocked out power to over half the town. We were starving and there weren't many places left to eat. Piccini's though having a wood fired grill was still pushing out pizzas and other foods because of their wood fired grill. They had a pretty long wait but that's only because they were one of the only games left in town being able to operate. My son and I first had walked down to make the order which turned out to be a mistake because it was more like swimming. It was about an hour and a half wait and when the pizza was ready I drove my truck through all of the flooded streets down to get it. Once we got the pizza back to the hotel as it turns out its was worth the wait, the pizza was awesome. Fast forward to present day and our most recent family vacation. We were looking for food before our 5 hour trip home and since it was the off season a lot of places were closed and being Saturday the places that were open were packed. However Piccini's being mostly a carry out business came to the rescue again with their awesome brick oven pizza and "outdoor seating". Thanks Piccini's hope to see you next time...
Read moreI've never been to Ocean City before and I can tell you one thing that I've learned - there ain't much going on out here in the wintertime.
Thankfully, Piccini's was open for business and this unassuming restaurant next to the Wawa was so good that I was compelled to write about it. I had the controversial Hawaiian pizza. Some love it. Some hate it. I'm frankly ambivalent and I hadn't had a Hawaiian pizza for years before this fine pizza at Piccini's.
Why did I do it? Well, this wasn't the typical ham & pineapple affair that I had erroneously believed to be the Hawaiian way. Sure, there was ham & pineapple, but this fine pie also had a touch of green onion, coconut flakes, smoked Gouda (!!) and maraschino cherries! The traditional ham & pineapple augmented with the subtle combo of complementary flavors of the rest of those ingredients and the perfectly done thin crust was a Hawaiian pizza experience I never knew existed and I'll be forever grateful to the masters at Piccini's who imagined this great combo! Two chefs...
