We've reserved several rooms as a group at the Impala for a weekend annually for probably close to 10 years. Have always enjoyed our stay until this year. The rooms are a little dated but that's never bothered us and it's always been clean. definitely a nice location near the boardwalk. This year we noticed a foul odor coming from around the refrigerator as soon as we got in the room. We wiped the inside of the fridge with Lysol wipes but there was no change. My wife went down to the desk and they said they'd send someone up right away. A guy, I think he was Domingo, came to the door with a can of febreeze or Lysol and asked if we "wanted a spray". We said we wanted him to look and see if he could figure out where the smell was coming from. He walked over to the fridge but didn't look any closer, only said that his "sniffer doesn't work well and he couldn't smell anything". He asked again if we "wanted a spray". We asked if he could get us a different refrigerator and he said he'd check into it but he doubted it. He seemed to put no effort into trying to figure anything out.
After he left, I pulled the fridge out of its cabinet and found a pool of what we think was rotten milk under the fridge. Most of it was clear/yellowish and some was white cheesy looking. I went back down to the desk and told the girl there what we found. She said the cleaning crew wouldn't be there until the next day but she'd talk to her supervisor. Domingo came out of the back and repeated the line about the cleaners not coming until tomorrow. I believe he said something like "I don't know what to do, you didn't want the spray". Apparently Domingo doesn't know how to use a paper towel. after some back and forth between me and him and the desk girl they said they'd have someone come up. I went back up and waited and waited. The rest of our group went for supper without us and finally we gave up and went for supper ourselves figuring it would be cleaned up when we came back. when we returned nothing was changed so we went to the boardwalk and came back around 9 PM with our 3 year old daughter ready for bed. Still nothing was done. I went to the desk again with a photo of the mess and asked when someone was coming to take care of it. The girl said the cleaners wouldn't be there until tomorrow and they didn't have any rooms available to move us to. Frustrated I went back to the room and we cleaned it up ourselves which took care of the smell.
I'm not one to complain about service, I really try to treat people well and give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm not upset that the cleaners missed it before we got there. I am upset that management, particularly Domingo, completely blew us off and gave us a "not my problem" attitude for something that would have been a very simple problem for them to fix. Yeah we were able to take care of it ourselves but for $300 dollars a night I don't want to have to clean the room myself anymore than I'd expect to pay for dinner at a restaurant and wash the...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Check in took some time but we were well informed of everything we needed to know. The staff at the front desk are friendly. The room itself was clean and perfect for our needs. They give 4 towels, 4 hand towels, 4 washcloths, and 1 bath mat. The sheets and towels were a crisp white with no stains or body hairs from previous guests which is a major pet peeve of mine! It's a little outdated but I could tell that it had mostly been updated with fresh wallpaper and flooring. The shower temperature was hot and pressure adequate. Plenty of counter space at the sink. The bathroom was a little tight for more than 1 person to be in there at a time but that didn't matter to me. Plenty of trash cans in the room. WiFi is free. The TV was a modern flat screen and they had basic cable. Beds were comfortable. No evidence of bed bugs. The carpet was dark green and no evidence of stains. There was a small table and chairs in our room. The small fridge worked well to keep our drinks cold. No microwave or coffeemaker but we didn't mind. Hangers and shelf available. There was an ice bin above the fridge and the ice machine was on the ground floor. Stairs and elevator available. The pool is nice with plenty of seating. It's a small pool and it can get pretty crowded with other guests. Some of the other guests and their children were inconsiderate but I can't blame the hotel for that. They offer towels at the pool. The pool shower was out of order but there is a hose and shower nozzle right outside the laundry part in the back to wash off all the sand from the beach. We observed the hotel staff cleaning the pool and checking the chemical levels. The location was great for walking to the boardwalk or Asbury Street. I took a star off because the amusement park (which is about 200ft away and has been there for decades) plays loud music until 11pm at night which really bothered us. For this reason, we probably won't be staying here again. Check out was a breeze. Your stay includes beach passes to get on the beach that must be returned or there's a $25 fee. Room service comes in the afternoon. There's a snack bar, coffee machine, vending machines, and a bathroom on the ground floor right near the pool. Parking can be limited but we found a spot right under the hotel. There's also an overflow lot across the street but we didn't have to use it. Because of the location, we only had to move the car one time the whole time we were there. There is a 2% surcharge on credit cards when paying. For 3 nights, this amounted to about $22. There's a sign on the counter that alerts customers to it. I don't remember if it was noted when we booked on Trivago but it's not like we could do...
Read moreStayed here during 4th of July weekend. I would rate it as okay. The location is great because it’s about a three minute walk to the boardwalk. Very close. However, downside is we were next to the amusement park section so you will hear screaming from the rides and coasters at night, which may disturb your sleep. I could hear them from my room. The pool was nice. There is a deep end which was cool. It is small but not tiny like some motels have. The rooms are very dated and theirs that “old furniture” smell when you walk in, which wasn’t nice. Everything was clean, just old. We received housekeeping 3 times during our stay without even asking which was very nice! I am grateful for receiving that. One thing that was disappointing was that when it came to watching TV, our room had a terrible set up. The tv was placed directly in front of the pull out couch. Our other too beds did not have a tv in front. So this made it difficult to watch TV. It was very small and we couldn’t move it. I would say to the owner of the hotel that sometimes guests like to watch a little tv before going to bed. Please consider this and make improvements for the guests sake. Other than that, hotel staff was friendly. It was okay. Laundry room is across from the hotel. You get access to the pool at the more pricy Impala hotel but the pool is smaller there! Lol. Those people paid more for their rooms and get a smaller pool. Tsk tsk. Anyway, I would give it a try. Any one planning a stay at Ocean city, beware: this is a DRY ISLAND. No alcohol, which means no Tiki...
