I'm very torn on this one. The cheesesteak sandwich and cheese fries tasted good prob 7/10 on food. Here is my problem though, I feel somewhat bamboozled. I looked at these reviews online and from the looks of it they had a 12" cheesesteak sandwich for $14.70 from the most recent picture published (at least what I saw). I get there and the sign is all patched up where the 9" sandwich was gone and now it just says the bottom half of the word "Large" which was the 12".
Here's my problem, I ordered it. Its now a 10" sandwich, the lady types in I think $15.30 for a price and I dont know what for the cheese fries. She asked if I wanted the receipt and I said yes so I could check it out later and see what I was really charged. When I got back to the house, it was just one lump sum for the whole thing so nothing is broken down, so I still dont know what I was charged for each sandwich. Here's the kicker though, the guy making the sandwich cuts 2" off the bread of each and chucks the nubs away in the trash. So they'd literally rather throw it away than just give the customer a 12" sandwich. Maybe its the solution to the other review that complained there wasnt enough in the sandwich. Instead of putting more in, lets charge more and throw away part of the bun so it can fit.
Honestly if the sandwich didnt taste good, this would be a 2* review. Its shady to not publish what the customer is getting and conceal the itemized list of what they are paying for. Its cruel that the bread is cut down and tossed away. Finally, I ordered on my feet at the counter and picked it up from the counter and the machine demands a tip, everybody gets a tip now right?
EDIT: The owner responded back, obviously doesnt care if they stay open or not. Has very poor reading comprehension and apparently a temper as well. He's correct, it is a counter service establishment. Whats the tip for? Its not for friendlyness or honest. 2 10" sandwiches and 1 cheese fry was $49.26. Sure I left a tip but it wasnt 30%. They charged me more than what their own menu says, did not give me a receipt and thats dishonest. ...
Read moreDO YOU LOVE A GOOD CHEESESTEAK? Well, I heard about The Cheesesteak Grill on Oceanside Blvd and figured I'd give them a try.
Normally, I'm not really one for a lot of meat, so I don't typically go to places like this.
This hidden gem is conveniently found just east of the 5 Hwy and still 6 minutes from the beach!
I heard they were under new management, so I came to see what would change from this business that's been here at this location for over 13 years.
After speaking to the owner & learning he is a chef with an already successful BBQ business, I was relieved to know this place is in good hands.
The Cheesesteak Grill is known for: CHEESESTEAKS • BURGERS • FRIES
But they also have delicious wings!
This makes perfect sense coming from an owner who has perfected the art of sauce making! So I can't wait to see what else he has in store!
So far, I've thoroughly enjoyed the pizza hoagie, the garlic bomb cheesesteak sandwich, the buffalo & lemon pepper chicken wings and the Philly fries with bacon.
The portion sizes for their sandwiches are ginormous and overflowing with meat! They don't skimp at all! The flavors were legit as well & everything felt balanced to me.
Their prices are on-par with the quality and convenience of the location to downtown & the beach, as well as, access to the 5 Hwy ramp.
Parking is great with access to a huge shared lot.
Only the interior is a little "plain" and simply, but this isn't really a deterrent, as the food makes up for it (just not a fancy date spot).
If you're looking for a solid cheesesteak, I highly recommend The Cheesesteak Grill on Oceanside Blvd.
Overall, I'll be coming back here to try more...
Read moreI regret not coming here more often. As much love as I have to Philly Franks sometimes I just don’t want to drive out there and with Gaglione’s closing Encinitas, Point Loma, Mission Gorge to open Petco this may be my go to for a fix.
My recent visit was amazing. When I’m not doing get a cheesesteak I get a hot Italian. By hot it’s just the meats are put on the grill momentarily since unlike the steak it’s already cooked, just for char and warmth. Onions, peppers, no lettuce (because who wants a salad).
They are doing thicker cuts of meats and from what I can tell a higher quality cut (new distro/supplier?). The mortadella really stood out. They did not skimp on my banana peppers or onions.
I’ve also recently tried the breaded chicken cheesesteak (breaded chicken from the parm), but with the cheesesteak which gives a different texture, but one that I like. The stoners steak is a little too much and will fall apart before the half to me not “south” enough to not just be an everything steak sandwich. The works is my go to for cheesesteak, because why not?
The cheesesteak bomb is when you need that little hint of salt/cured meat to go along with beefy cheese. It’s extra rich.
Ok now for the reason for the upgraded rating.
I was properly greeted and it was genuine, my leftovers (yes leftovers when you order 3, 9 inches for 2 people) were packed for me. I was offered water cups without asking. They happily gave directions to a lost gentleman and helped an elderly lady with her car alarm. It’s that beyond customer service that did it for me, it’s human service, it’s...
