Sausage Haus Meat & Deli — Restaurant in Oconomowoc

This place was recommended by relatives. While the staff are friendly, this butcher shop / catering place literally hasn’t been cleaned in a decade. Everything is covered in a layer of grease and dust, the kitchen flattop and deep fryers were completely black, flies were buzzing around equipment, crumbs were visible on many surfaces, and generally the place is very chaotic and messy, with lots if papers and post-it notes. Nobody wore masks, gloves, or hairnets (maybe one had a baseball cap?), and there appeared to be a lot of dirt between the semi-random display coolers and chest freezers; their vents were furry with dust.

Despite my doubts, I had one of their burgers, which was both big and flavourless, and while I didn’t get food poisoning, it took me ages to digest and a sleepless night.

On the way out, we noticed an ENORMOUS bird nest under the eaves.

My first visit to this place and I hope to get back there soon to try more f their food. I had the muffuletta sandwich. It completely filled a styrofoam takeout container! Cost $8.95!! It was delicious. Next time I would ask them to cut it in half or into quarters to make eating it easier. My husband had the roast beef sub and it was also huge and tasty. I enjoyed the vintage atmosphere. Interesting and unique local products are offered for sale: mustards, hot sauces, pickled products. The menu has many tantalizing options and the prices are super reasonable. Prepackaged to go meals and deli salads are available along with raw brats and various cuts of meat. this has been a favorite of my parents for many years. I got a take out dinner which was my first meal from this place. everyone was very friendly and professional and hard-working. they take a lot of pride in this place and it shows. I got the beef and noodles and it was a fantastic meal. dessert was a pistachio pudding type cake. it was much healthier than most of the sugary type pudding desserts I am used to so it wasn't as enjoyable just because I'm not used to eating real home-made gourmet desserts.
