I heard great things from friends that went to school nearby and made this a point to stop by on my visit to Texas. It is very nicely located near campus and on arrival it was visually exactly was I was wanting to see for your typical pizza joint. It was rugged and had that classic feel to it like you find on the streets of New York where you just stop in and grab a slice.
The tables were adorned with the classic checkerboard table cloth and the sloped shaped pizzeria style booths. They allow expression and art on their booths as do a lot of the great pizza joints and I took part in leaving my mark on the table. That little decoration from everyone over the years really made the atmosphere feel authentic and welcoming.
I mentioned that this was my first time here and visiting from Colorado and the guy at the register made a nice semi announcement about it to the whole place which got me a free order of the garlic knots. Another traditional event for a pizzeria.
As for the food, the pizza itself was perfectly executed for me. Slight char to the crust from the oven with a nice ratio of sauce and cheese which had a great salty note that helped to compliment the sweeter sauce. Large slices helped with the required fold and eat method and as I progressed through my slice the cheese stayed stringy and soft.
The garlic knots were also really great with the nice chewy pizza dough as its base and a great garlic butter coating around and through it. I was hoping for a more authentic pizzeria experience from this place and it was exactly what I got. The staff was great, the pizza was fantastic and I look forward to returning on my...
Read moreHorrible experience! My wife is gluten intolerant and cannot eat wheat. We noticed that on their menu they offered gluten free pizza. I decided before we made the long trip out there after a hard days work I would call them to verify that they did indeed carry gluten free pizza. I called then but they didn't answer and a recording played over and over with some Italian guys voice saying they were busy and would answer the phone soon. I waited for what seemed like minutes and hung up and then tried calling back many times. We probably spent 20 minutes trying to get someone on the phone so we could verify 100% that they had gluten free crust. After being frustrated not being able to reach the restaurant, we decided to make the 30 minute drive to the restaurant and take our chances. Once we arrived and tried to place our order the server non nonchalantly told us they were out of gluten free crust. Needless to say my wife and I were beyond frustrated. We both had were traveling through midland for work and had a very hard day. It was so frustrating to not be able to get in touch with the restaurant beforehand and then have them tell us they were out of gluten free crust. It's a big deal to my wife, she gets deathly sick if she eats wheat.. All they had to do was answer the phone at some point and it would of save us hours of looking for another place to eat while we were both famished... Not happy! We will not give them another chance nor...
Read moreWhile the pizza is usually above par for Odessa, the organization and execution is undoubtdtly sub par, to say the least. I ordered at 5:52, and was sent a text that my pizza would be done in 10 minutes at 6:01. After waiting in line for over 26 minutes just to pay for and pick up my pizza that I ordered at 5:52, I got in my car with a luke warm pizza at 6:46. This 14" pizza cost Me 30.00$ and some change. To be clear: Trying to do what I could While waiting in line, knowing that Friday's are busy, I called and was put on hold 4-6 times, only to be told to ask the girl at the register if My pizza was ready, because they were SO BUSY, she could not tell me if it was ready or not, and was hung up on. I am A VERY FAIR PERSON, who works in the public, and understands how it can be, but. The lack of response, responsibility, or accountability for any kind of update, after waiting on the phone for approximately 10 minutes while IN LINE? is inexcusable. Only to be charged 30.00$ for a "warm pizza" that was pulled from a pile of boxes on a counter? Really?!? I think a different approach is in order. I am certainly not the only one to think this. I did not feel like my business was valued AT ALL. I love to support small business, this could EASILY be done better, with a modicum of care and value of the customer, be they return...
