This was my first time eating here and my impressions were low. My boyfriend had been there a few times before, always saying it was a pretty nice, privately-owned establishment, so I was looking forward to it.
I ordered the spaghetti and meatballs - a classic. I figured that for $9, this would be a nice special plate of spaghetti with top-notch flavor in both the sauce and the meatballs. When it was served, the temperature was mild, and my first bite was already unsatisfying. The spaghetti noodles tasted as if they were boiled much longer than should be, or sat in a pot of water too long, as they were pretty watery with little flavor. The red sauce tasted as if it were from a jar, not homemade like you would expect from a hole-in-the-wall Italian restaurant. The meatballs seemed to be homemade and tasted alright, so that was the highlight of it. Spaghetti is a staple Italian dish that is difficult to mess up, but I feel like even my own spaghetti with store-bought meatballs and jar sauce tastes better. For this to be a classic dinner that most everyone would enjoy, it was a sad plate of noodles.
My boyfriend ordered the chicken alfredo -- again, another staple Italian dish. The penne pasta also tasted as if it had been sitting in pot of water for too long, and the chicken.... oh the chicken... It appeared to be those frozen chicken fajita strips you buy in a bag at the store and heat up, but as if these were heated up in boiling water, not grilled. All the past Italian restaurants I've been to serve chicken alfredo with a freshly grilled chicken breast that is sliced after grilling. This was not the case. Again, another meal I seem to make better at home -- and it's not that difficult!
The complimentary garlic knots and marinara sauce were tasty and warm. The staff was friendly and the wait time wasn't too bad. The environment was clean overall (although they had this weird, funky music video channel playing with an odd selection of songs that take you back to that strange musical era in the 80's and 90's). We both agreed this would not be a place to revisit, sadly. If a restaurant credits itself as an Italian eatery, then the two most classic staple items...
Read moreThis place has recently changed management, again, and has become terrible, literally, overnight. We got the dinner special on Sunday, and were treated to the usual deliciousness that we have come to expect from this establishment. The following Tuesday, two days later, we thought we would get another dinner special, so we called to order, only to find out that new management had taken over the day before and that the special was no longer available. We thought we would give it a go, anyway, and ordered an 18 inch with double pepperoni, and a 14 inch cheese. We arrived, within the suggested time, to pick up our order, and the staff was very pleasant. However, once we got our order home, the disappointment began. As stated above, we had ordered double pepperoni, but, upon opening the box, we discovered pepperoni and sausage. We shrugged it off and continued with our meal. It was not a pleasant experience. The crust was akin to cardboard. Overall, the pizza was very dry, and the sauce was more of a paste, as if it had been sitting for a time. The cheese pizza was even worse, dry, pasty, and cold. It looked and tasted old, like it had been sitting around for a while, and the dough wasn't even cooked all the way through. They tried to fit the 18 inch pizza into a box that was clearly too small, causing it to be a bit smashed and warped. Also, the special we ordered was advertised on the sign in the restaurant as including a 2 liter beverage, but they did not have any stocked. In conclusion, we paid around $24 for some of the worst pizza that we have ever experienced. We will...
Read moreIs there a way to give less than one star? I wish there were. When this place was owned by Danny Falcone, it was a wonderful place to go and grab a slice. Having spent some time away from OKC, I was surprised upon my return to find that one of Danny's creditors had taken over the restaurant. Okay, I thought, it couldn't be that much of a difference. I ordered a slice of the sausage and pepperoni pizza. They took my slice from under the heat lamp and threw it in the oven to get it nice and hot. They then brought my slice over to my table. I picked it up and took a big bite out of it. I was shocked to find that half of what I had put into my mouth was burned something or other. I spit out my mouthful and looked at the bottom of my pizza. An enormous chunk of charred mystery material was baked into the crust of my pizza. Disgusted, but willing to give them another chance, I took my slice to the counter and pointed it out to the lady working the register. She said, "Well, what should I do about it." I was non-plused. Had I brought this to Danny, I wouldn't have even had to say anything, I'd have had a new slice in hand and an apology out of his mouth. Considering her response, I was uninterested in attempting to stomach a new slice and requested my money back. I was denied and told that I should just pull off the charred mass of disgusting whatever it is. I called my credit card company on the spot and told them to deny the charges, to which they obliged. Unless by some miracle this place goes through a transformation, I do not recommend anyone...
