It absolutely PAINS me to write a negative review about Jimmy B’s. I LOVE the food. It’s always been great experience. I live downtown, I have referred so many clients and groups including lunch, OU Tennessee game, tons of happy, etc. but this really was a very unpleasant experience ( happy hour). I sat outside and waited for a friend so I was in no rush but no one approached and wait staff were continually going outside. There were two cute dogs out there and I commented to the owners how cute they. No one approached nor even greeted. It was 20 minutes so I finally told Andria that we should go inside and order since we were not getting seen outside. I approached a female bartender about the situation. The bartender said that she must not have seen me; however, we saw the female waitstaff literally rush to manager as if she knew she did something wrong or maybe complain about us( which is insane because we did absolutely nothing but sit outside for 20 minutes waiting to be served like everyone else). It was a very odd, “chilly” reception and atmosphere…not friendly what so ever. It literally felt like we were being that particular way on purpose. I was so completely baffled. I still am…to be very honest. One of the managers asked if we were okay and I explained to him the situation. He said maybe she thought we were from next door. Outside , I made it a point to make eye contact so she would come to the table. I told him this. I’m extremely disappointed and I had to voice this. This place always greets people positively and with a smile. We watched it today and unfortunately that was not our experience. There was a great couple that actually greeted us and they were eating there. I give kudus to the male bartender ( dark hair w/goatee -sorry cannot remember his name) He was and ALWAYS is so kind and when we went back outside a awesome guy named Shamari brought water and our additional order. Jimmy B’s has always been a fav to me, I have no clue why this happened but definitely a negative experience that I had...
Read moreDon't judge a book by it's cover! While the outside may seem a little basic, the dining experience is world-class. The cocktail I ordered, named "Anime Lunch Box", was unbelievable. A balanced sweet citrus zing with a remarkably smooth finish -- I'd have ordered a couple more if I wasn't watching my alcoholic intake!
The star of the show was the Korean Beef Tenderloin. I took the $6 premium cut upgrade and told them to prepare it the way the chef likes it. I've never had a piece of meat taste so amazing. I've had my share of awesome dishes from fantastic establishments but none have shocked me like this one did. The texture was on point and the sauce was to die for. And the meat itself, as decadent as you're going to get. The fried rice that accompanied it was no slouch either and served as a perfect compliment to the best piece of meat I've ever eaten.
For dessert, I got the Key Lime pie. I've never had Key Lime pie so I'm not going to shower it in quite as many compliments, but it was absolutely fantastic and I'm pretty worried my next taste of Key Lime pie will pale in comparison. It was delicious, and the lime flavor was balanced enough to not overshadow that sweet bready pie flavor you hope for after a perfect entree.
My family was also very pleased and excited about their meals and I hear more of the same praise from them about their respective dishes.
The service and atmosphere were top notch, and I even noticed the other customers were very nice and easier to talk to than normal. My drinks were getting refilled before I could even get close to finishing them and our waiter was always nearby, ready to assist, professional and kind.
All in all, my expectations were obliterated and I most certainly will have to come back again. I can't recommend dining here enough -- It's a little more expensive than I am used to but in some way it still felt like a bargain since the entire package practically defined luxurious, laid-back and above...
Read moreJimmy B’s has for some time been our favorite restaurant in the Midtown area, but tonight they get an awesh**. The food was excellent as it has always been, but the service was the worst that I have ever experienced in 30 years of eating at Hal Smith restaurants. After a considerable wait at our table, we ordered an appetizer. When the waiter brought it out, we ordered drinks and our entree. The manager delivered our food in a reasonable time, and I asked him about our drinks. We were half way through our meal when our drinks finally arrived. The reason, they had to remix a Martini due to a new bartender (how hard is that?).
Our waiter was pretty much a ghost and when we finished, I finally had to flag down the manager again to get our check.
In the mean time, the table next to us got their drinks within minutes of ordering and before their appetizer arrived. They were also informed about specials that our waiter failed to tell us about. When I asked the waiter about that (after we had eaten) he said it was just some Sushi.
I eat at Charleston’s often and have been told that they have a team service policy. That certainly didn’t apply here as the waitress at the next table never even gave us a glance. The only team work I saw was the manager helping out all the waiters.
So, it will probably be a while before we grace Jimmy B’s again. Such a shame, since we had really liked the place in prior visits. There are too many great places to eat in OKC and good food or not, we don’t need to tolerate poor service.
What is the old saying, “One Aws* cancels all attaboys”.
Oh Hal, if you are listening, don’t worry. We will still grace the Charleston’s on the Expressway and in Bricktown often, where the service is...
