Honestly, this is a difficult review for me to write. My husband and I live downtown and enjoy supporting local businesses and I very rarely feel compelled to write bad reviews or complain. However, this visit was so frustrating, we felt compelled to warn others. We have been to Harvey bakery 5 times previously, including the week they first opened which was definitely their best week/our best visit. It seems to be worse the more popular it gets and the longer they have been around. This is usually opposite the case for most restaurants who struggle the first few weeks and then get it together. So each subsequent visit to Harvey Bakery is less stellar than the last, but our most recent visit this past week totally ruined anything redeeming about it and was ACTUALLY BAD. We showed up at 10:30 - a full 30 minutes early- to get a table and get in line because we know how busy they are and how hard it is to get a table. The cafe is notorious for people camping out with laptops for hours and the line is always long to order. We knew this and planned ahead accordingly. It was already busy when we got there as we expected, but there were a few tables unoccupied, most in need of cleaning. I took a seat at a two-top and my mother went to get in line to order. Not even 5 minutes after sitting down, one of the staff came over to bus the table and while she did, she asked me if we had ordered yet. I explained he was in line to order and then she asked me to give up my table to people who had already ordered and were waiting. Normally I wouldn’t think anything of it except for the HALF A DOZEN OTHER TABLES VERY NEARBY WITH ONLY ONE PERSON WHO HAD NO FOOD, DRINK, or NUMBER INDICATING THEY HAD ORDERED. I complied but then while waiting for my mother and another table, I watched to see if she asked anyone else to give up their table. She did not (and if she did and I didn’t see, no one else have up their table.) I also didn’t see any of the other staff asking others to vacate their empty tables either. And in the end, my husband and I ended up sitting at a 5 top table all by ourselves-which we got on our own (so nobody gave up THEIR table for US) while numerous other people continued to working on their laptops or read alone at tables without food, drink, or order numbers. The 5 top table would have been better suited for some of the families that were waiting just as our original two top would have been better suited for us, but alas, their indiscrimately enforced policy of giving up a table for those waiting created a no win situation for more than just us. I don’t necessarily disagree with the policy, but if they are going to enforce that, it needs to be across the board, not just when they feel like it. On top of it all, they forgot half our order and we had to go find someone to ask about it after half and hour of waiting. Sadly, this was such a frustrating experience for us all around that we will likely not be returning or recommending it to others. It does not matter how good the food is if the service is terrible. Attaching one of the many examples of guests camping out at tables without...
Read moreI really enjoyed myself here and was impressed by their sustainable efforts. I was meeting a good friend for brunch on a Saturday morning, and am so excited to bring more people here. They have a rather large parking lot available to the north of the building. Walking through the outdoor seating you'll find the front door that opens and just really feels like home. We waited in line for 30 minutes to order, but we didn't mind because it was a good time to chat and catch up - I had nowhere else to be but to be present here. Closer to check out you'll see in cases their freshly baked bread and pastries that look so good. I ordered a loaf of Oklahoma sourdough bread and they offered to slice it for me. I also ordered a matcha latte, their BLT, and a ham and gruyere croissant. They had plenty of eating by the time we were ready to be seated, around 10:30 am. They have a bar where you can see all their coffees being made. Our drinks came fast and I really liked my matcha latte, it was just sweet enough. I then started to notice that there was almost no plastic waste - everything was reusable and even the to-go bags were paper for my croissant. Hats off to the commitment. My sandwich arrived and it was very delicious. I cut it in half to let the egg ooze out and dug right in. The atmosphere was just perfect for this summer morning and I just really enjoyed my conversation with my good friend. Brought the sourdough home and my husband was instantly inspired to make some panini sandwiches with it. The bread has lasted us about a week in our two-person home, haha. Connor also enjoyed the croissant, he hadn't had a savory croissant before and wanted another one. All around amazing experience and I can't wait to...
Read moreI've been to Harvey multiple times. I only ever get bakery items and MAYBE a coffee, so I can't speak for their other items. The bakery items are always good, but not good enough to keep my coming, and I think today will be the last day I ever go to Harvey unless I'm invited by someone else. Today was the nail on the coffin. I went today to try one of the limited Midnight Cowboy drops for today. I saw on their instagram that they would be restocking the case, after they had sold out in the morning, at 2pm. I got there at 2:18pm, stood in line for 10 minutes, finally got to the front and asked for the special pastry, and was told they had SOLD OUT. I was like, "wow already? Its only 2:30." To which the person at the counter said, "yeah they dropped at 2pm and sold out in like five minutes" 😐 how many did you make for the second round Harvey Bakery? 10? They are one of the only half decent, French inspired bakeries in the whole of the OKC area. Yet EVERY TIME I go they are sold out of the thing I want. It shouldn't matter what time of day it is. If the business is open, then they should have enough inventory to last the day. They have been in business long enough to know how much is needed on a day to day basis. Yet they sell out of items consistently. The ONLY reason I drove 15 minutes from my house today was to try the ONE pastry that sold out in FIVE minutes because Harvey was not prepared. I'm not blaming the workers or bakers, but I am blaming the higher ups for not managing stock and...
