This review is strictly from the perspective of someone from Hawaii who was seeking a Hawaiian plate lunch experience. Shaka is not it. Unfortunately, despite the name and logo of the islands and Hawaiian BBQ chicken and Loco Moco on the menu, this is not a Hawaiian plate lunch. This is an upscale take on the genre with portions so small you'll be glad you're at the Collective because you'll want to buy something else to fill you up (ironically Okie Pokie serves musubi if you want a Hawaiian snack). A Hawaiian plate lunch is supposed to be large, affordable and filling. Every dish should be served with rice but the chicken here is not. The mac salad is too loose. The avocado is strange and just kind of stuck in there. The chicken had a good char albeit it was dry and stringy in some areas. I think Oklahoma desperately needs a Hawaiian restaurant and it will do very well here but this upscale variety is not what I envision. Still holding out hope for an L&L franchise to open, 'til then I'll keep driving to Dallas for my fix. I'll try Shaka again in the future but my excitement...
Read moreI rarely write reviews like this , and rarely am I super stoked and excited about a place , especially a good place , but this has to be written! I’m a door dasher and I came here to await a order from a customer and was greeted by a guy working the register and assembling food orders and the cook who was obviously cooking 😁 and I’m talking a real greet like real friendly people who actually care about people in general and as potential customers! The cook proceeded to make me a small sampler with some of his best chicken and pineapples on this planet FOR FREE AND WITHOUT ME EVEN ASKING! I know food trust me , I’ve been around the world with the military and I also know people !! This is a MUST COME TO PLACE !!! These dudes and people are super cool and have good vibes all the way through ❤️💯💪🏼 I HIGHLY RECOMMEND coming here !! Best chicken and Hawaiian cuisine and the best colorful presentation and the most creative I’ve been to in Oklahoma...
Read moreAs a Hawaiian, I was delighted to meet Patton, speak a little pidign and get familiar food that was outstanding and extremely flavorful and even the presentation was wonderful. Nothin bad can be said about this place.
I would like to address the other person stating they are also from Hawaii. We Hawaiians have to understand that this is not Hawaii. We do not get kanaka discounts or privileges we may be used to. This is Oklahoma after all and every menu item has to be westernized for the majority of those eating Hawaiian food for the first time. Yes, the portions are not the same as on the island but you CANNOT say that the food was not flavorful or not up to par. We must remember where we are and respect what our brethren is doing, bringing our cuisine to the mainland (literally in the middle of the country) without praise and happiness.
I'll find a way to 6 star and sing praises from the heavens if it was possible to get some poi and...
