Good food, TERRIBLE simulators (unless you’re doing golf). The rest of the simulator experience is not as advertised, and really poor organization and service from the venue.
We arrived a few minutes early for our simulator reservation, but the previous group in our bay wasn’t done, and staff hadn't even checked them out yet by the time our reservation started. It was 15 mins past our reservation time before they had the area cleared out and we even had menus.
The kids excitedly jumped to the simulators to try the shooting game which they were most looking forward to. The guns didn’t work. We asked a staff member about it. He said “Yeeeaaah, the guns aren’t working right in this bay.” We alerted our server, and she said she’d have someone look into it. No one ever followed up.
Other games were pretty much garbage. The simulator is clearly built to simulate golf, anything that isn’t golf based just isn’t accurate, and doesn’t work well. Standing directly in the center of the light, throwing a ball directly at a target, and watching it sail wildly left or right of where you hit is pretty discouraging to kids, and they quickly grew frustrated with it.
They also wanted to try football, and…there was no football in our bay. We asked staff for one, and they said they would check…and never followed up again.
Oh, and the clubs were shared between two bays, so when we did want to golf we often had to wait for the right club to come back from the other bay.
We paid for 2 hours, and tried to make the best of it, but once our food arrived, we left, after about 80 mins. We’d have stayed even less time if the food had come faster.
At no time did management or any staff apologize or attempt to address any of the broken or missing equipment, or the long wait for our...
Read moreI really want to love Smokehouse Social and all of the ingredients are there to make it special but it is not there yet. We had reservations on a Saturday night for 5:30 and were shown an outdoor table almost immediately. The weather outside was amazing! We were greeted quickly and our drink order was taken right away. We all only wanted water and it took 36 minutes to get water. Speaking of the water, I would recommend you leave the water refill decanters at the table and let folks refill at will. We ordered the the Burnt End Queso for an appetizer and it was excellent! There are PLENTY of wait staff but they were super busy and disorganized. They were all very friendly and personable. The doors to the outside are a huge issue to the waitstaff, the doors are heavy and close too quickly and it causes an incredible amount of ineffeciency. There is music playing loudly from the beach and music playing loudly on outdoor speakers from the restaurant so the outdoor diners have two different music sources blaring at once. I would turn off the speakers on the outdoor wall of the restaurant since the beach music is plenty loud. The smoked chicken was dry, cold and mostly tasteless. My grocery store's rotisserie is better. The brisket was fine. The ribs were dry. The sausage was dry. The beans and ham were good! They are a sweet baked bean variety so be prepared for that. The steak fries and the mac n' cheese were good. The onion rings were not homemade and not that good. It took an hour and 45 minutes, and we had our food served at one hour and 15 minutes. They lost our check so we waited about 10 more minutes for a check to surface. There is so much potential and I am sure they will get everything...
Read moreLet me start by saying: Smokehouse Social isn’t just a restaurant… it’s a spiritual experience for your taste buds. I came here looking for a quick bite and left questioning every life choice that didn’t involve smoked brisket and loaded mac & cheese.
First off, HUGE shoutout to the staff. These folks know hospitality like they know BBQ, which is to say, VERY WELL! Friendly, fast, and so helpful I wanted to invite them to Thanksgiving.
Now let’s talk food. The brisket? So tender it practically apologized for being eaten. The ribs? Falling off the bone like they heard a good gossip secret. And that Bourbon Chipotle BBQ sauce? I would drink it out of a wine glass if that were socially acceptable (and I’m honestly considering doing it anyway).
Did I mention the VR Golf and Archery? These bays are seriously impressive, tons of fun, and perfect for everything from a casual swing to pretending you’re on the PGA tour (minus the walking and sunburn).
And here’s the best part… you don’t have to be a guest to eat there! I repeat: YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE STAYING AT THE RESORT. Smokehouse Social is a standalone spot with its own entrance, so no need to wander through a lobby awkwardly pretending you know where you’re going.
So whether you’re staying at Okana or just in the neighborhood and craving top-tier BBQ, do yourself a favor and swing by. Your stomach will thank you. Your soul will thank you. Your cardiologist… might have some questions, but they’ll understand.
10/10, would eat again and...
