I REALLY wanted to fully enjoy this experience. I was incredibly excited about the focus on indigenous ingredients. Alas, there are some definite growing pains. I'll start with the good. The burger is REALLY good and creative. Pickled squash, red onion, and zucchini were really delicious, as was the use of the arugula. The only thing we thought was since bison is such a lean meat, cooking it to medium or medium well would have been a better choice, to keep it juicier. The flavor was definitely there.
That said, the pastrami eggs benedict was not a success. First, the poached eggs were completely overcooked, to the point of being hard-boiled. This is not what you want on a benedict. Also, the pastrami was heated on a flat top, making it incredibly chewy. Bison is so lean, I think the better reheat option might have been an au jus. Finally, the English muffin had an off taste and I wondered why not, if there is fry bread in the back, use that instead of an English muffin.
Service was friendly but short handed. We had to wait to get more water, and the meal was over before my husband got a coffee refill. Lastly, we wanted salt, but none was at our table and we couldn't get a server to bring us some while we were eating because they were busy.
Overall, for creativity I gave it 3 stars, but for my experience, I would have gone with 2. I hope things get better and hopefully I will give...
Read moreWe were all VERY disappointed in the Thirty Nine Restaurant but at least now we know we will never go back. I should have read the description of the place better. The key word in the description is “Modern” Cuisine. Some of my family is Native. I grew up with them as neighbors, went to school with them, have them as co-workers and friends and this Food reminded us of what Tex Mex Cuisine is to Mexican Cuisine. The only thing really close to authentic on Thirty Nine’s Menu is their Fry Bread.
The food at Thirty Nine is an embarrassment and doesn’t represent Oklahoma. It only represents the Modern Chefs and unbelievably one Chef was described as Indigenous and an Award Winner. Tourists who go to that Restaurant, who haven’t been around Natives as much as my family have, do not understand that the Restaurant is all hype and no substance. Service wasn’t good either. We ran out of Tea and after several minutes I had to flag down our Server for a refill even though the Restaurant barely had any customers. No more Customers then they had was another sign that despite some of the hyped up reviews it’s not worth the money...
Read moreWhat a gem. We ate lunch before visiting the museum. The hostess and waitress were both so pleasant and welcoming. Kept track of our drinks but weren’t intrusive. The atmosphere was so relaxing. We split a bowl of the Green Chili Corn Chowder with Fire Roasted Green Chilies, Diced the Sweet Potatoes, Bacon, Roasted Corn, Toasted Cumin, Queso Fresco, Cilantro, Lime, Chili Oil, and Crispy Fingerling Potato. The flavor was well balanced and the dish was very filling. Also split the Turkey sandwich with Sage and Piñon Pesto Toasted Ciabatta, Pulled Turkey Breast, Garlic Sage Aioli, Shaved Red Onions, Mixed Greens, Cranberry Cream Cheese, and Jalapeño Jelly - came with fresh made French fried. The jalapeño and cranberry cream cheese gave a nice bite to the flavorful sandwich. Probably the best fries I’ve had in years. Highly recommend stopping in. We are planning to go back to just eat here (don’t have to pay admission if you just go to eat and don’t go into...
