I have eaten here since it was called Harus. I have been eating sushi my entire life. Tonight we ordered takeout and the fish was bad. When I say bad, I mean it smelled so bad, I wouldn't even cook it, let alone serve it raw. We called and got a refund even though the manager verbally doubted our claim on the phone. As someone who grew up the daughter of a returant owner, I took the fish back to the returant (a 30 minute drive) because I felt they would want to know, without a doubt, spoiled food was served. When I went to the returnant the manager refused to even smell the fish. I told him I planned to stay a customer prior to entering the business, everyone has a bad day. The manager could care less, he said he was the sushi chef. Then maybe hes the one that should be fired. He could really care less that we consumed some of this rotten fish. How could they put out legitimately rotten fish and not even care? I took the fish back with me and I will be contacting the heath department first thing in the morning. I am sick to my stomach that we ate the sushi rolls that contained the same fish and each of us ate a piece each of the sashimi, until we realized the sashimi tray was not our trash can stinking. As a nurse i am concerned for what could be to come. I'm still in shock at his refusal to even smell it. 😳 He just said it looks beautiful, im not smelling it and started talking over me. I agree visually the fish looked fine but that doesn't mean it didn't rot from probably inadequate refrigeration. I've never had such a bad experience with a resturant. Don't go here. Too bad I can't add the smell to this review. My intent to return to the resturant was coming from a good place so they didn't get shut down when people get sick but clearly he refuses to even acknowledge. Truth is he could probably smell it from the counter and didn't want to even put his face closer, or admit it was bad. Perhaps this is why they had to change their name to Hira's, because he said they have been in business for 18 years, so it's obviously the same owners.
Update: after placing this review, they sent a text to the number used while ordering. The text suggests the smell was "Daikon under the fish". Unfortunately, I drove the rotten fish 30 minutes so they could make that determination, but his arrogance refused to allow him to even look into the problem. I brought the product straight to them, just ridiculous. Now you're going to just say I don't know, maybe it was the Daikon? You could have smelled it yesterday and known for sure....
Read moreWe had a combo of things for our party of five. We ordered gyoza and crab Rangoon as appetizers. Both were underwhelming. The crab Rangoon's filling was still pretty thick and mostly cold and the wrappers were just lightly fried. Very bland. The gyoza had a doughy taste to them like they were cooked in a pan just hot enough to brown the outside but not hot enough to fully cook the wrappers. The filling was only just warm and was fairly underwhelmingly seasoned. The gyoza came out very oily. I suspect the gyoza and crab Rangoon are kept too cold prior to cooking.
Our sushi came out next. We'd ordered a crunchy spicy tuna roll and a couple pieces of salmon sushi. The crunchy spicy tuna was quite good and a good portion. The pieces of salmon weren't the greatest. The fish was a bit milky in color instead of nice translucent pink. The salmon was stuck to the rice with way too much wasabi. Folks who don't like wasabi won't like their salmon sushi.
Our dinners were actually pretty good. The fried rice was quite tasty and the vegetables were good as well. Our cook did a really good job with cooking temperatures, but his knife skills left a little to be desired. Pieces were very inconsistently cut. My wife ordered filet and chicken. The filet was amazing; cooked properly and very well seasoned. Her chicken was pretty good as well. I ordered the hibachi spicy chicken which was amazing. They marinate it in saracha and some other spices and then add more when they cook on the hibachi. It was fantastic and I ate it all!
The cooks seem to do a great job but also seem to have low morale or are way overworked. They're just going through the motions when cooking. Their low-energy does not inspire much interaction from their patrons. It might be a chicken-or-the-egg thing because when I did start to interact with our cook he perked up a little.
Overall we were satisfied with our experience but it didn't stand out in comparison with other hibachi places around. I'll definitely come back for the spicy chicken and will probably skip the...
Read moreAbsolutely disgusted. My wife and I have been here a few times and the food has always been good. The only sour point was the manager. He always seemed to be in a bad mood and would often be short with people. Unfortunately, this time was different.
For starters, he asked for a tip (despite his surly attitude) which my wife refused. She was picking up dinner for the family and we weren't dining in. My wife ordered her favorite avocado cream cheese roll. It's literally the only sushi she'll eat. She noticed an odd flavor (it tasted fishy she said) but ended up eating a couple pieces anyway. Not five minutes later, she started to vomit. Shortly after, my 12 year old bit into something hard. Mixed in among the steak was a human nail. I'm not sure if it is a fingernail or a toenail but either way it was vile.
Once my wife's stomach calmed down we drove to the store. We arrived just as the store was closing. The door was still open and we entered. I confronted the manager. I'll admit that I was a bit loud. I was angry over what had happened. Instead of trying to talk to us, he became belligerent. He then proceeded to call us liars (which he later denied) when we told him about finding the toenail. He said "we don't have any women working in the back."
He did eventually give us our money back but he did try to grab the nail from my wife. We'll be contacting the health department in the morning. Honestly, with the way he was acting, it wouldn't surprise me if he did it on purpose. I don't know, but the coincidence is a bit odd.
As we were leaving, I closed the door a bit hard. He opened the door and tried to reengage. Should I have slammed the door? Probably not. But after he called us liars multiple times, I'd had enough.
I expect, that if he sees this review, he will try to deny it and even try to say we were being overly aggressive. Either way,...
