There’s chicken, and then there’s this chicken. It’s not your bloated, factory-farmed Frankenstein bird. This is the real deal—free-range, organic, untainted by the cruel machinations of GMO science. The portions here are modest, natural, honest. The kind of place where the Whole Foods crowd feels at home, where upper-middle-class Asians quietly nod in approval at the authenticity.
What you’re getting here is a balance of quality and restraint. Each dish is a symphony of ingredients, served in courses designed to be savored, not scarfed. The herbs are impossibly fresh—vivid greens that still taste of the soil they were plucked from. And the ginger fish sauce? Forget about it. This isn’t just a condiment; it’s a liquid manifesto. Bright citrus, bold ginger, and an umami hit that will light up parts of your brain you didn’t know existed.
For my fellow Vietnamese brethren: get the Gỏi Gà—shredded chicken salad with all the texture and tang you’d expect—then follow it up with Cơm Gà Hải Nam or Cháo Gà if you’re feeling brunchy.
For the more cautious but curious American eater, there’s the approachable yet undeniably satisfying Cơm Gà—chicken and rice. But let me warn you, tradition reigns supreme here. Bones are part of the deal, as they should be. This is chicken the way it’s meant to be eaten, rooted in custom,...
Read moreIt was our first time here since it just opened and we were not disappointed! We got M4 and it was very delicious! Their spring roll is great as well but their price was $6.99 for two of them which was a little steep… I would definitely come here again to try their beef stew next. The waiter we had was a bit on the slow side and we had to remind him a couple of times to get our tea out but he was super apologetic and kind. It was probably his first day so we weren’t too upset about it. We had a good laugh. Their soup wasn’t as flavorful as I was hoping to be. Their chicken, however, was super tender. We had fish sauce come out with our pho and we weren’t sure if we were supposed to eat it with our spring roll or add it to our soup. Their give you a lot of clear noodles as well. I hope they add to their menu for desserts because for some reason my table was craving dessert afterwards! Food was delicious, not as flavorful as I was expecting but still good. Price: steeper than other places I’ve seen but still quite reasonable Atmosphere: could use more decorations and was a bit chilly when I was there (it was 33 degrees outside)
Edited review: this place can use some improvement for sure but nonetheless, a great...
Read moreI heard about Com Ga Houston on Instagram and decided to give them a try.
We went in for the lunch special and weren't disappointed. The portions were generous and the food was flavorful and fresh tasting. It's exactly what I think of when I'm craving Vietnamese food.
I got the banh mi and it came with four spring rolls. It looked so good that I ate one of the spring rolls before I remembered to take a picture. Whoops! The banh mi had, I believe, a mixture of cha lua and pork belly along with the normal assortment of pickled veggies, cilantro, and fresh jalapeno.
The person I was with ordered the noodle bowl. They said it was really good and the sauce you pour over it (nuoc cham?) was really good. The pork used was seasoned pork belly and it came with spring rolls as well.
As with all of the lunch specials, they came with a free soft drink of your choice. They also have "the good ice" for their drinks.
If you haven't been and you're looking for a new lunch spot you should definitely...
