COVE — Restaurant in Olympia

We've been wanting to try the COVE for breakfast for sometime, since they're open so late in the morning we didn't have the chance until now. Unfortunately, it ended up being one of the most disappointing meals we've had in Olympia.

I ordered a coffee and steak and eggs. I know not to expect steakhouse quality when you order one from a place that doesn't do them primarily, but even still I was disappointed. The steak was pretty sinewy. Even worse was the cook on it. I ordered it medium rare it arrived seared on the outside and completely raw and cold in the middle. It was served pre-sliced, so I'm not sure how that was missed when it was plated... The eggs I ordered over easy, and unfortunately even that wasn't great; the whites weren't set. The breakfast potatoes were a standout, great texture and seasoning. Coffee was also good, above average.

My wife had the chicken and waffles. The waffle was not great, it was somehow a savory flavor and undercooked. The chicken was fine, a little dry and bland, but battered and fried ok. The bacon jam was somehow completely lacking in any flavor.

The service was also pretty poor. Though our waitress was friendly, she was pretty inattentive. We had to try and get a refill on our coffee despite moving the empty cups to the edge of the table and waiting ~10-15 minutes. She also didn't ask about our food, despite neither of us having eaten much of it. We also had to flag her down after getting the check and waiting another 10 minutes.

Maybe it was just a bad day, but we won't be giving it another try...

It was our first time here. I'm not sure how new this restaurant is, but it was new to us. We we lucky the band was practicing while we were eating. It's nice to see Olympia have live music. Our wings were plump and juicy. Very flavorful. The smash burger was huge and delicious. Plus, for an extra 4 dollars you can choose a salad of your choice. My daughter went with the wedge. The cod fish and chips were very tasty. Not over battered. Unfortunately, the crab risotto was terribly over salted. But they had no issue with taking it off our check. I will try it again, just ask to lesson the salt. It was loaded with crab and lots of butter. Our waiter, Doug, was very nice with a funny sense of humor. We plan on coming back and making a reservation to listen to the music 🎶 7/20/24 My daughter and I made a reservation to listen to Altered 90's band. It was so much fun dancing and laughing. We truly enjoyed our Hibiscus Margareta's, I highly recommend these tasty treats. Yummy! I also tried their flat bread with fig jam, barrette cheese, prochoto, and balsamic glaze. That was delicious. Great for a hot evening. 3/13/25 We have returned again! I gave the Risotto a try again, and I am so pleased I did. It is absolutely 💯 delicious and full of flavor. My daughter tried out their Avo Burger, and bacon was cooked perfectly. Lots of avocado slices and a jucey hamburger. Our appetizer was the avocado toast. I had never tried this before. So happy did. Went last night with 2 friends that have been here once before and wasn’t impressed with staff or food. My wife and I haven’t been here yet. So our friends decided to join Us for there second experience. Positives are: Great open concept No bad seat in the place Very friendly staff Food was Hot and Good Negatives are: Once Seated was ignored for over 5min. To the point we almost walked out. unlike most places in Olympia that ask if you’d like a beverage to get started while being seated. We noticed 3 other tables that was seated after Us were approached first for service. We ordered drinks and food at the same time to assure we would not experience an 2 hour dinner event. All four of us ordered cocktails and the server brought 3 to our table, forgetting mine. Waited several more minutes before mine was served. Our food did come out in a timely manner, but 3 of Us got dinner, again Mine was forget. The person who brought out our food actually looked at me and said. Didn’t you order anything? After they realized they screwed up I was offered a cup of chowder to eat while they prepared my meal. My meal finally arrived while my table was finishing there’s. I would say this is more of a lunch place than a dinner place. Menu reflects that. Our friends will Never be back. If My Wife and I do go back. It will be for a late lunch. Not dinner.
