My family of four has been to Happy Lemon a handful of times now, within the last 3 months or so. We've, for the most part, enjoyed most of the drinks. We've had the following: Roasted Milk Tea, Taro Milk Tea, Ube Fresh Milk w/ Taro ball, Mango Smoothie, and Brown Sugar Fresh Milk w/ boba. Oh, and the Original Bubble Waffles- crispy on the outside and a melt in your mouth deliciousness on the inside. I should mention that every single time we've gone in, they have run out of something- whether it be a particular drink we wanted or a topping. Every. Time. While I understand they get busy, I believe it unusual for a business to consistently run out of product. The second to last time I was in, they let me know (AFTER I paid for it) that they had run out of a drink I had JUST purchased 45 min prior (decided to order and take one home to my husband)- I ended up choosing a cheaper alternative and the staff person didn't offer to refund the drink; instead, I paid extra for a drink I wasn't taking home. Not the end of the world, but definitely not proper customer service. Regarding the drink flavors- the Roasted Milk Tea is delicious; deep roasted flavor and not overly sweet at 100% sweetness level. I prefer the tapioca balls with this one (even though they have texture inconsistencies- some hard, some chewy). Today, I ordered this drink and they were out of tapioca (not a shocker); subbed crystal boba and they were AWFUL- crunchy in texture (almost like lychee), not at all the chewy goodness crystal boba should be. The first attempt with Taro Milk Tea was a bit gritty/powdery in texture; the second attempt was much better. The Ube Fresh milk was pretty good- a hit among both of my kids. It's also on the less sweet side so 100% sweet is not overwhelming. They prefer the lychee topping in this one. The Mango smoothie was pretty yummy (50-70% sweet is a must!) The Brown Sugar w/ Fresh Milk tasted, well, pretty much like slightly sweetened cow's milk- lackluster. We bought a side of salted cheese to try to add some umph, and it helped improve the flavor profile a bit. Overall, their price point seems pretty reasonable compared to other bubble tea joints in the area and their selection is great. We'll keep going back AND will always expect them to be out of something on the menu. My biggest suggestion is that they work a little harder to nail down the consistency of their...
Read moreWe spent one day in Olympia area so we had a chance to visit this Happy Lemon location to get a boba drink for my daughter. I asked for a substitute of oat milk for the regular black sugar boba with milk. The cashier told me they had just changed their policy to only allow replacement of oat milk for the top 3 choices on their menu. I looked at them and realized all three of them have caffeine in them. I told the cashier my daughter cannot have caffeine and she is lactose in tolerance. The cashier then told me to wait. She talked to another person who was preparing food and drinks and then came back and told me it's ok but will charge extra for oat milk. I said ok and asked for warm since it was super cold that day.
On the receipt I saw they charged me $1 extra for oat milk. Due to the extra effort I paid 15% tips so I paid $8.80 total for the drink. You know what I got? An 8 ounce paper cup with only 80% full and less than one small spoon full of boba. I purposely asked her when she handed me the drink if she had added boba in it because I was not sure she did. The next day my daughter told me the drink she got the day before was too small and had very little boba in it.
I understand we should be grateful to be able to find boba tea in Olympia. But just wanted to let people know that the boba drink we normally get should be 16 oz cup with at least one big spoon full of boba. I paid $7.65 for a same boba drink -16 oz the next day in Bellevue, where rent is higher. I now do not have blind trust for Happy Lemon...
Read moreI was looking for a shop kinda like the shops in Seattle, and was so so so excited when i saw this place!!!
When we got there i ordered taro boba with salted cheese, normal boba, and crystal boba! The staff are so sweet and kind! They're amazing, love em. But my drink was really really sweet, to the point it made me sick. It was my bad, i got 100% sweetness.
Next time, me and my mom went and i got a bubble waffle, and the same order just with taro boba instead of crystal boba. I made sure it was 75% sweetness. It was a little sweet but i enjoyed it! But again, i felt sick after drinking.
Lastly we tried again me, my mom and my sister. And i ordered the same drink (i don't drink anything but taro lmao-) 50% sweetness. and a Oreo bubble waffle. And i couldn't even get halfway through this time. It just always makes me sick, i told my family about this and my mom said that she also felt sick when she drank!
Granted this happened a few months ago and i just was thinking about it lately, for all i know it could've gotten better. But i find it so strange that me and my mom feel sick whenever we go there? Idk go for yourself and see how you like it, maybe it was the things i ordered?
Tldr: place made me and my mom feel sick whenever we drank/ate there, staff is...
