We’ve been to a few different seafood boil restaurants in the larger area with varying experiences. This one, unfortunately, loses to all of them.
We were pleasantly greeted and welcomed to a table, so that at least was a good start. I’d say that most of the staff did seem friendly, it did have that going for it.
The food, however, was where quality started diminishing. Most seafood boil places have good flavor throughout the contents- this one managed to have flavorless food. The corn was overcooked and flavorless, the crab didn’t get any brothy flavor, yet somehow the sausage was highly over salted.
In addition, for a fried seafood basket and a fried chicken wing basket, they didn’t have anything as inspired as, say, tartar sauce or marmalade for the shrimp (Outback steakhouse offers marmalade- and they’re a steakhouse…)
The two sauce choices for these sides were ordinary ketchup and/or ranch. Call me crazy, but, how about having the ambition to create your own house tartar sauce? Or maybe they did have it, hidden, because it certainly wasn’t offered. I’m not sure if I’ve ever been to a place that offered fried seafood baskets without at least tartar sauce.
We also ordered clam chowder, which, after eating more than half and stirring up a bit, we discovered a hair in.
We weren’t going on hair finding expeditions. We didn’t want to discover hairs in our food, but there it was- just chilling in the clam chowder- mixed in nicely.
We wanted to inform our waitress, but this wasn’t so easy as waiting for her to come around to check on us.
The entire restaurant was empty- literally us and one other table, and the other table left before we did- so we were the only table in the entire building.
Yet we had to try to wait to spot and flag down our waitress to get any attention.
They had other staff sweeping and re-sweeping the same spots it was so slow… maybe the first or second person didn’t sweep that spot well enough, I hope the third person sweeping the same spot was finally able to figure that spot out!
So, three people went to sweep the same spot, but we had to flag our waitress down.
When we told her and showed her that there was a hair in the chowder her response had us both too stunned to speak.
She didn’t apologize at all. She laughed, and asked if we’d like her to take it back.
I guess someone telling you that there’s hair in the food you served is funny, but then asking us if we’d like her to take it away?? Did she think maybe we still wanted to eat it? We’d just power through? It’s just someone else’s hair, what the hell, YOLO? Funny stuff, apparently.
When my wife commented on the sods prices being overly expensive, she again chose not to apologize or offer any kind of empathy- she laughed again and told us it’s more expensive at other places.
I guess she didn’t like us, because she didn’t like to check up on us, she laughed at our problems, and was contentious of our comments.
Overall it probably was our fault, for making the spontaneous decision to try this seafood boil restaurant out. We won’t be making that particular...
Read moreI just had dinner with my family here. The seafood “boil” we had was not good. I asked about the flavors and the waitress told me the “All Mixed” was the most salty flavor, so I went with garlic butter. Me and my mom ordered seafood boil, my husband ordered wings & chowder and my 6 yr old ordered fried shrimp & chowder. My mom and I got our food and it was not even hot… our seafood “boil” was cool/lukewarm and overly salty especially the sausages. My mom did not eat her sausages. My husband asked for blue cheese with his wings, they said they do not have blue cheese just ranch 🤦🏻♀️ I did not finish my food because it was too salty. I then had my son’s chowder; well, I had one spoonful and as I was stirring it up, I found hair in it. It was obvious it was not my son’s hair or mine as we both have long hair. The hair in the chowder looked like facial hair or from a man with a short haircut. It made me grossed out that I nearly threw up. 🤮 They don’t check on people or refill drinks. Finally, my husband got the waitress’ attention, she came over, my husband asked for a refill of Dr. Pepper, then I told her “there is hair in the chowder” pointing at the hair… she looked at me and asked “do you want me to take it away?” I wanted to scream… what kind of dumb question is that? No, don’t take it away I’ll eat the hair!?!? 🤦🏻♀️ wtf? Then my husband told her yes take it. She was not concerned or apologetic about the hair in our food. She then said “I’ll take it off the check.” I would’ve accepted a “sorry about the hair in your food.” Talking to the waitress was like talking to a rock! 🤦🏻♀️ I do not see Yummy Crab surviving… it was dead… there was only my family and another family but the rest of the place was empty. Today was our first and last. We should have just made the drive to Tacoma to Crab King instead… now we know to never go to Yummy Crab again. Food and service were unsatisfactory. I wasted $145. Would...
Read moreMy family and I were excited to try Yummy Crab but unfortunately the food was a let down. 😔 Since it was our first time, celebrating late Father's day, we ordered several things to get an overall taste of the menu. We ordered crab, shrimp, lobster, with potatoes and corn. Shrimp fried rice, clam chowder, and wings. The seafood boil with potatoes and corn honestly was the biggest let down of all. Portion size was decent, flavor was ok, I think if we go again maybe we will try plain butter flavor because the there was one that was way too salty, even for myself and I love salty. The biggest disappointment of the boil was not just the flavor but we could clearly tell the corn was frozen for way too long so it had a very old/watery defrosted texture. The lobster was tough from being over cooked and the crab seemed to be old or over cooked as well. Clam chowder was watery and needed more flavor, I added some pepper and it helped some. The only thing that I can say was amazing was the shrimp fried rice! By far one of the best I've ever had. Wings were ok, wouldn't order again. Guest service was great though, everyone who helped us was super nice and I love the atmosphere and decor! It's very fun! The only reason why I am giving this experience a 3 is because of the service, atmosphere and the shrimp fried rice. But 3 out of the 4 dishes were simply not pleasant. Hopefully it was just a bad day but unfortunately we probably won't be back again. I'll stick to driving to Puyallup to go to...
