I was highly recommended here by a friend several times so… my partner and I finally went. To begin with, it’s very much a hole in the wall sort of place, but in the best way. It’s tucked in the corner by Petsmart, but when you get inside there’s plenty of elbow room. The chairs were nice and comfy, everything was clean. The decor is very minimalist but nice. We stood at the counter for all of maybe two minutes before we were quickly seated with menus, shortly followed by our water.
The food was five stars right off the bat. We both started with egg drop soup and it was incredible. There’s no corn in it, for those of you who don’t prefer it. The bowl had just enough that you got a good portion, but not so much that you would be full immediately. With the wonton crisps on top there was a beautiful crunch - and they weren’t greasy.
Then came the appetizers: crab Rangoon and potstickers. The crab Rangoon are different from any that I think I’ve ever had, in that they’re kind of sweet! They came with sauce for dipping, as did the potstickers. Those were very tasty as well, hot and crunchy with plenty of filling in all of the above.
In perfect timing, out comes our entrees - sesame chicken with broccoli for me, and hot and crispy chicken for him; both of us got steamed white rice. Rice was pretty straight forward, perfectly cooked, and you get a heaping cup of it. My sesame chicken was INCREDIBLE. I really can’t recommend it high enough! The sauce was so flavorful, perfectly sticky; and then the chicken was hot, crispy, and I had plenty to take home for leftovers. He told me that his H&C chicken was also amazing, but I could’ve told you by the look on his face at the first bite!
We chose to pass on dessert, but with our ticket came two little mango candies which were an excellent way to end. All of the staff was friendly yet speedy, but not once did I feel rushed. We both agree that we’re definitely coming back to try more because we were very impressed.
Tl;dr Run, don’t walk, it’s fantastic - if you haven’t been yet, then you’re...
Read moreOur first time patronizing this restaurant. We ordered ahead by phone, choosing scallion pancakes, sauteed lamb with cumin, and Singapore style rice noodles.
The scallion pancakes were forgettable. The sauce was nice while the pancakes resembled paratha, like what is served with Indian meals, with scallions in the dough; flavor was lacking. We eat parathas frequently at home as it is, so this appetizer wasn't particularly a treat for us.
The main event, however, was very tasty! Spices and texture graced the Singapore style noodles delightfully! And I swear there are Indian spices used. Singapore is multi-ethnic so that would not be surprising, I surmise. Bits of shrimp and chicken added protein to this dish.
My husband enjoyed the lamb with cumin. This was a bit spicy hot for me, while I agree, was seasoned nicely and the ingredients tasted fresh.
Most Chinese restaurants we have eaten at are disappointing for me, because my stomach cannot tolerate the entrees. I think it's the oil they use. My husband loves them, especially the buffets and when we go, I can only eat $5 worth of food because of this so it's a big rip off for me. It was nice to discover the food from Blue and Fly was well-tolerated!
We agreed that, although this restaurant was more expensive than the average local Chinese restaurants, it is a better value for the both of us as we can both enjoy and the quality is excellent. We were advised our order would take about 35 minutes to prepare and it did. Service was friendly on the phone, good upon arrival. It was busy.
While waiting a few minutes to pick up the food, we happily and respectfully noted many patrons appeared to be an East Asian ethnic crowd, which I interpret as a compliment to the authenticity of the menu. A joyous vibe was felt. Another customer came in to pick up an order and expressed their repeated enjoyment of the food. When COVID-19 settles down more, we look forward to dining in. In the meantime, I expect we will get...
Read moreYou can get more traditional Chinese food here as opposed to American Chinese food.
Update: this is one of the rare places in Omaha that you can get Chinese food (there are many more American Chinese food restaurants). I found myself coming here the most if that's what I'm craving.
Lamb noodle soup (seasonal) 5 stars If you like white pepper, this is the one for you. It's quite punchy in that flavor.
Scallion pancakes 5 stars This is one of our go to appetizers for here.
Bulgogi beef (Chinese style) 5 stars The peppery beef in brown sauce arrives on top of onions on a sizzling plate.
Seafood noodle soup 3 stars This is a skip for me. There was a lot of squid/cuttlefish, 2 mussels and a bit of shrimp. I'm not as big into the squid. I liked noodles but the soup was not there for me either. I've just had better versions elsewhere and with the other dishes to choose from this is not one I'd choose.
Pot stickers 4 stars
Egg roll 3.5 stars They are fine, but not the kind I prefer. It's double battered as it's extra crispy which some people really like, but I don't want the extra batter personally.
My friend and I usually get a smoothie. It's a bit pricier but they are very good.
Previous review.... This was my initial visit. Food was good. There was no stand out dishes for me but it was a solid offering. Might have to go back to see if I can find something that makes me go back repeatedly.
If I end up coming here more frequently I will up it to 5 stars .
Pokemon: there is a pokestop nearby that you can easily get to from this location.
Parking is relatively simple as it shares a decent sized parking lot with a few...
