UPDATE: This is my review of the Vietnamese section of the menu only.
Thai Tea - Probably the best I've ever drank. Perfectly flavored; not too sweet. The taste of the tea is the highlight in this drink and it shined through like a bright star. Bravo!
Bahn Mi - Very good. French Baget was perfect; crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, warm to the touch. The ingredients were what a non-traditional Bahn Mi would have; grilled pork (not the traditional chicken liver pate`), cucumbers, carrots & and cilantro. They add non-traditional jalapenos which I really liked. That took the Bahn Mi to another level. Very good.
Bo Luc Lac - Pretty good. I knew when I saw potato, it would not be traditional but it's okay here. Every 'Mẹ ơi' has their own take on this delicious dish. The restaurant does use the 1 thing every mom uses; oyster sauce. Without oyster sauce, you just have garlic beef. To be traditional, drop the potato and get tomato and lettuce leaves in there. Beef already makes this dish present on the heavier side, so having bright, fresh, cool vegetables brings this dish into a better balance; not too heavy, not too light. All-in-all, I liked it. Top it with some chili crunch and this restaurant's Bo Luc Lac recipe is a yummy version. Pretty good.
Bahn Xeo - Fail. The flour used for the crepe did not have turmeric from what I could tell. It was brown in color. Turmeric gives the crepe a yellow color and imparts a mild sweet flavor into the crepe dough. Major swing and a miss there. The ingredients inside were spot on; shrimp and pork belly, bean sprouts and green onions. Another miss was the lack of lettuce leaves to use as a wrap; you place of piece of Bahn Xeo, along with alittle bit of pickled carrots and radish and a leaf of Thai Basil, inside a lettuce leaf and wrap it like an egg roll. Add a dash of sweetened fish sauce inside before eating. The restaurant places their idea of a Bahn Xeo on a bed of shredded lettuce. It's really a shame to plate the Bahn Xeo like that cause using your hands to eat Bahn Xeo is traditional and quite fun. To the restaurant’s credit, not many restaurants offer Bahn Xeo. Fail, but thanks for...
Read moreThis place is nicely located in an area with lots of parking; from the outside it looks very nice and inviting. The ambiance was great and the customers seemed to be having a good experience.
I had the pleasure of being served by a wonderful lady at the Cajun Crab. She was very helpful when making my order and gave extra attention to my special requests and she offered several suggestions. The restaurant is very spacious, clean and nicely decorated in the nautical decor.
My order was to-go and I particularly appreciated the way that they individually packed everything securely so that I could combine at home for myself.
I ordered the grilled porkchop plate and it was very tender and very tasty. Additionally, I also ordered the Rice paper rolls that were made with fresh vegetable shrimp and pork with a spicy fish sauce on the side. I love the simple, fresh and healthy treat and I thought it was a great accent to the rest of my meal.
My favorite of this order was the #7. Bun Bo Hue - (no fish cake) Beef brisket, pork and lot of fixings to create the total Pho experience. It was the perfect level of spice that had a nice spicy kick but not overwhelming that I could not enjoy. I thought it had a little too much oil, but its okay because overall it was a wonderful dish that I would definitely return for and order again.
Overall, I thought I was a great meal and each dish was prepared with great detail and everything tasted wonderful. I would definitely return to try more things...
Read moreDriving by, we were intrigued by the name itself. Cajun food, yet Pho is Vietnamese. Could these really go together? Do they put Cajun seasoning in the Vietnamese food? We had to stop and check it out. Little did we know, it’s a new place, as a grand opening banner gave away when we got closer. So we asked a few questions. To answer what the menu pictures may have already answered if you looked at them, it’s almost like 2 restaurants in one. The menus are completely isolated. Almost as if they could operate independently, yet from the same counter. We decided it was wise to try some stuff off of both menus. I also asked which such a unique place, if it was a franchise. The answer to that, is no. They opened a location in Kansas City, and it’s doing well, so they opened a second in Omaha. Service was good. They did their best to help answer any questions we had. Place was clean and staff was friendly and accommodating. We enjoyed everything in our meals. I will say, the crawfish didn’t seem to be as good and fresh as from what I’m used to when I’m down in New Orleans for example, but I know there are limitations on getting fresh seafood up to the Midwest. Over all it was very good from both menus, and I would be happy to return again for...
