I was highly upset that this was the place he had chosen for lunch. So even before walking through there doors I was being negative and had major attitude! And that didn't change once I saw the menu and yes I realize I was at a German restaurant/bar but I was hoping for some American food to be on the menu that was not the case. I mean they did have a BLT on there but in my mind I could admit stayed at home and made a BLT. Which left the one thing that I despise more than anything and that is bratwurst have never liked them refuse to eat them but yesterday I found myself in a predicament where I had no choice because I love all cuisine and I just want to say German cuisine is not on the top of my list or in my 20 favorites That was until yesterday pleasantly surprised and for the first time in my life I enjoyed and ate bratwurst I'm not saying I never had bratwurst Don't get me wrong like I said for some reason people like to throw them on the grill at everyday barbecue and I normally avoid them take a small bite and hurry up and throw it away but yesterday at this restaurant I had the best bratwurst of my life Don't know what they did special to it but I was pleasantly surprised The brat was delicious there cucumber salad was delicious they're giant pretzel and Bier cheese was delicious atmosphere of the restaurant itself 5 out of 5 stars. The staff and there willingness to help you 5 out of 5 stars. It was very clean and The atmosphere of the place the ambiance of it all was kinda magical i truly felt like I have been transported to one of those German restaurants or bars that you see in movies and again food was excellent. I do plan on going back in the near future and trying something else on their menu. So this is when the places that I highly recommend they get two snaps and a hey Boo...
Read moreCame in to Rathskeller after an early Jays game for a late lunch since we heard commercials about how great the Rueben sandwiches were at the bar and grill. We had a party of 9 and 2 members of our party got there early to save a spot, which worked out great. After everyone got there, we ordered. Ordering drinks and food are done at the bar, and they give a number to display at the table for the order. We didn't notice the wait, at first, since we had a great time visiting and catching up with the members of the group. After over an hour of waiting, hearing other order numbers called and seeing other customers eat and leave, one member of our group asked if there was a problem with our order. She was told that the order didn't get placed due to a printer issue. That did not make sense. If we had been pressed for time, we would have inquired sooner, but we were enjoying each other's company.
We were told that our order would get moved to the front of the line, but other orders kept coming out ahead of ours. We were told that they had sandwiches in the oven and couldn't put ours in until those were finished.
One by one, our sandwiches eventually came out. The main foul up was not putting our order in their queue, but I don't understand their making one sandwich at time process. The Reubens were good, but I wouldn't call them the best in Omaha. One sandwich was a Chicago Hot Beef and the description said that it was served on a hot Rotella bun. The bun that we got was cold, like it was just pulled out of the refrigerator. The sandwiches are only served with potato chips and a pickle spear, so the preparation can't be too difficult. The only good thing that I can say about the visit to Rathskeller was spending time with everyone in...
Read moreWorking at UNMC I had watched the whole transformation from Caffeine Dreams to Rathskeller, and was excited to finally try it out. Upon walking in the door the bartender stared at us blankly, no smile, or welcome, or direction of whether we should wait to be seated or seat ourselves. After this awkward staring contest we proceeded to seat ourselves. Initially, we thought we must have made the wrong choice because we sat there for 10 minutes with no one acknowledging us. We felt invisible, and just as we were about to leave a server said they would be with us shortly. So we proceeded to sit there for another 5 minutes before menus were brought to us. Things then seemed to be proceeding as normal until our server came up and said they were out of the beer I ordered, then after a short pause she said they were not really out the beer was just 'downstairs'. The time it took to have this interaction is the time it would have taken for her to just go grab the beer I ordered. Then, we proceeded to order food, a meat and cheese board, and it was dropped off with no explanation of what the meat and cheeses even were. This was disappointing. Then upon receiving our check the server told us to look it over and make sure it was correct. Instead of waiting 5 seconds for us to let her know it was fine she walked away. Overall, the service was extremely inefficient and lots of unnecessary trips were made. If there was a hostess, or menus already on the table, or more than one server, or a bartender that could point customers in the right direction, this place would be a lot more efficient and enjoyable for guests. We are in no hurry...
