Mediocre at best. I visited for dinner just today at the time of this review. (Feb 7th) Our server, whose name escapes me right now, was very friendly if not super attentive. It was a busy night but once our orders were in we only saw her once until we were ready for boxes and a check.
Additionally they have dedicated cocktail servers who did not bring us any more water into after we were done with our soup course and didn't check to see if we needed more cocktails until we were halfway done with the entree.
For the food itself I ordered the 14 oz ribeye with the loaded baked potato and my wife got the 6 oz sirloin with garlic mashed potatoes, both medium rare. We also both got the soup of the day which was broccoli cheese soup. The soup was tasty but it was so thick it was like eating a cheese dip with broccoli in it instead of a soup.
The steaks were cooked very well, right to the correct temperature we requested but the baked potato was lacking on toppings for what I would consider "loaded" and the garlic mashed potatoes had formed a film on top from sitting under the heat lamp for too long. The steaks flavor itself was decent, the ribeye especially had dinner good fat that imparted flavor but other than some salt and pepper, they are definitely counting on you springing for the 4$ pad of compound butter for any real flavor.
Ambience Wise you can definitely see what used to be the jams before it but they have made some changes, such as the shelving they put up at the end of the bar. I question the choice for brown egg shaped salt and pepper shakers, each with only one hole and no way to visibly tell them apart, sitting next to a small black modern style lamp that looks like it can't from the At Home store.
At this price point I would expect better then paper, checkered napkins and plastic ramekins for butter, but maybe that's just me.
Finally we walk in to the owner standing on the upper floor just looking over the dining room, which on it's own is fine and to be expected. However throughout our entire meal there was a quite loud group at the bar on one side of us and another group on the other side of us. The groups knew each other as at one point the loudest member of the one group went over and started taking loudly to his friend at the other table. Rude, but again on it's own annoying but not a deal breaker. Through the meal the main group had different members coming and going, until about halfway through our meal the owner came down loudly greeting this group of people who it was now obvious were his friends and spent the rest of our time there standing paling around with this group.
And not like he was behind the bar chatting, they were standing between the bar and the row of tables next to the window, to the point that we had to squeeze between them when we were leaving. Working on restaurants all my life you expect owners to be nothing but in the way, but to do it in a way that affects the customers trying to have a meal is unacceptable if you expect to be a thriving business with repeat customers.
Overall, disappointing because West Omaha needs more places like this. I hate having to go downtown to go to the really nice places, but at this price point I...
Read more--update-- menu confusion has been resolved! Went back to enjoy v-day. Food was fantastic, but service really distanced this location from other fine dining, lots of errors tonight. Having a cocktail waitress and food waitress is not only confusing, but also creates bad timing were we were left with empty drinks wanting to order more. Cut the number of table per waitress, zero need for 2 styles of waitress, it's not fancy...it's confusing.
Missed my husband's soup for his steak, bread service was delayed. After finishing our entree it was almost an hour until we finally paid out bill. Yes, we ordered dessert, but that was slow also. Bill was wrong, got charged an extra cocktail and didn't receive a discount for the missed soup.
I want to love this place for the delicious food, but the staff has had time to learn and needs to step off the amateur level status!
-original post- For opening night, fantastic job! There were some small glitches that I'm sure will be resolved quickly, and the steak was the mouthwatering highlight! Servers were attentive and the busser's were prompt. The kitchen was quick too, lots of positives for the first night open! We will be back again!
Drinks: started with a Hazy Espresso and an Old Fashioned. Hazy was perfection of coffee and hazelnut cocktail. The old fashioned was a little harsh at first but mellowed as time when on.
Appetizer: Cowboy Caviar, good but nothing exciting. Typical chips and pico style salsa. The lobster cargot sounds interesting, we probably try that next time
Kids: Absolutely fantastic for keeping a kid happy while the parents eat some steak! Instead of the typical crayons and paper, they give the kids a magic board to use, Genius! Kiddo loved it! Has a kids drink with a ring pop in it (Bandit) and has a wide selection of kids dinners with ice cream dessert. Unfortunately the kid sliders on menu don't mention it has cheese on it, which is a deal breaker for our "hamburger only" kid. The ice cream was good, but WAY too much for a kid, the serving could have been 1/3 of the size. It put us parents in bad position to make us stop our kid from eating too much.
Soup/salad: Offered on most venue items. The salad bar was a good salad bar, nothing extravagant, but everything was ice cold and clean. Husband had the lobster bisque, very tasty and creamy.
Dinner: steaks absolutely the star of the show! Filet was cooked to med-rare perfection. Truffle butter and pepercorn sauce were both good add-on as well as the 3 scallops cooked to perfection.
Sides: extremely confusing. There are regular sides and sharable sides. Sharable sides are obviously bigger quantities, but is not readily apparent if you can order them as a personal size for an upcharge. I intended to order sweet potatoes as a sharable side, but was given in a single size serving with my dinner. No big deal until I was charged a full size price (it was rectified, after I caught it on the bill)
Dessert: bread pudding, huge serving, easily shared by 4! Delicious but first night glitches left it only luke warm instead of piping hot. Something I look forward to trying again once the kinks...
Read moreLegacy Chophouse – A Disappointing Anniversary Experience For our 45th wedding anniversary, I wanted to find a special place for dinner. After some research, we chose Legacy Chophouse. The building itself is beautiful—both inside and out—and the atmosphere was quiet, with only a few tables occupied. We initially considered sitting outside, but the wind led us to opt for indoor seating, where the chairs were notably comfortable. Our waiter was friendly and had a pleasant demeanor, which we appreciated. I typically enjoy a glass of Petit Sirah, Merlot, or Chardonnay with my afternoon meal, but decided to try something different and ordered a margarita. Unfortunately, what arrived didn’t resemble a traditional margarita—it was served in a small glass, overly strong, and lacked the balance and presentation I’m used to from Mexican restaurants. That was the first letdown. We started with soups: I ordered the lobster bisque, and my wife chose the clam chowder. While the first spoonful was promising, both quickly became overwhelmingly salty. The lobster bisque, which we’ve always enjoyed during our time in Washington State, was more like a chunky soup with too many ingredients. My wife found the clam chowder equally disappointing—the flavors didn’t come together well. Next, we tried the coconut shrimp. There were four large shrimp, but they were greasy and lacked any noticeable coconut flavor. The batter didn’t resemble the crispy, coconut-flake coating we expected. We asked for bread, and although the waiter said it would be an extra charge, I agreed to it. However, the bread never arrived, even after we had started our soups. After some hesitation, we decided to order entrées. I asked for the prime rib, and the waiter mentioned that they typically mix it with some type of cream. I declined and requested it medium well, seasoned simply with salt and pepper, and aux jus on the side. What I received was an extremely fatty cut that didn’t resemble a proper prime rib. The texture felt off—possibly over-tenderized—and after two bites, I boxed the rest. The side of rice was undercooked, though the asparagus was fairly acceptable. My wife ordered a cheeseburger with no onions, but it arrived with onions mixed in. While she stepped away, the waiter returned with a replacement rather quickly. I expressed concern that they may have simply removed the onions and returned the same burger. He assured me it was freshly made. However, after one bite, my wife stopped eating—it was clear something was off. We mentioned the issue to the waiter, but neither he nor the manager offered an apology or any form of compensation. The total bill came to over $130, which felt steep given the overall experience. This review isn’t meant to discourage others from visiting Legacy Chophouse. Perhaps with a different kitchen crew or on another night, things might go better. But for us, it was a disappointing evening on a very...
