As someone who works in the service industry, I always try to be patient when dining out. But the management at this restaurant completely ruined the experience.
From the moment we walked in this past weekend, the tone was off. The hostess was doing her job well. But a short, heavier-set woman, who appeared to be the manager and possibly Latina, was standing over her. She kept micromanaging and talking over her in front of customers. It felt unnecessary and uncomfortable to watch. If anything, the hostess seemed more capable and professional than (who I am assuming to be) the manager.
Once we were seated, the service didn’t improve. Our server, Kate, never introduced herself. I only found out her name by asking another staff member. She took our order, brought the food, and dropped off the check. That was it. No check-ins. No refills. No personality. Just the bare minimum.
The water was served room temperature with no ice. Since Kate never came back to check on us, I couldn’t even ask for ice until the end of the meal. That was just one more example of how little effort was put into making the dining experience feel welcoming or cared for.
While waiting on the check, I saw the same hostess from earlier bussing tables. Meanwhile, the manager just stood at the host stand doing absolutely nothing. She didn’t lift a finger to help. A good manager leads by example and steps in to support their team. This one clearly doesn’t. She chose the easiest job and let others run around cleaning up her slack.
They weren’t even busy. There was no reason for the service to be this poor. It’s not a staff issue. It’s a leadership issue. The staff looked unsupported and overwhelmed, and the management clearly doesn’t care.
The food was actually really good. That’s the only reason I’m giving this two stars instead of one. But no matter how good the food is the management needs to step it up. This restaurant has potential. But bad leadership is dragging the...
Read moreHonestly, I'm not impressed with my first experience here yesterday. We were walk-ins just looking to grab an elote before we headed home. We walked up to the bar and were told the menu was available via the QR code. Cool, not a problem at all. Many places are doing this. We knew what we wanted so it didn't take us long. It took about three full minutes for the female bartender to turn around again to take our order while she [apparently] just stood with her back to us, doing nothing. [Disclosure: I've spent many years in the service industry bartending. Three minutes doesn't sound like a long time out of context, but for a customer to be ready to order and have to wait three minutes while staring at your back...it's not a good experience] The male bartender was cleaning in front of us but never asked if he could help us. She finally came over for our order: Two elotes and some queso, to go. We paid, and waited patiently at the bar.
The time it took for the food to come out was reasonable considering how busy they were. It was about 7:30 pm on a Friday. The bag came closed and the server repeated the order by reading the receipt on the bag. We drove back to Plattsmouth.
Upon opening the bag, we found there was not any queso or chips. The two elotes were also not how we expected. They were missing anything spicy [cayenne pepper] and covered in parmesan and cilantro. They weren't terrible or anything, but not what we expected in an elote. Two stars for the speed of the kitchen, the friendliness of the server who handed us the food [i assume he didn't know the order was wrong, just delivered the closed bag], and cleanliness of the establishment along with mask...
Read moreThe food was fantastic, but we had issues with the service.
I had ordered duck tacos but never received them. Water dripping from the ceiling where I was seated. We were not offered to be reseated even though it was dripping on to my food. I'm not sure how much of it got into what because the restaurant is really dark. I just know for sure it got into my chips since I was reaching for it and felt the splash as it went on my hand and into the food. They did replace the chips. I had felt the splash of water earlier before the food arrived but thought it was my imagination... But then throughout dinner there was about another 3 times it occurred. Service in general was average. Friendly but I had to go get my own things (like a knife and fork) from the bar as sure was absent.
I thought the elote was fantastic. We ordered 3 happy hour items. I'd skip the salsa trio unless you really want chips. The gringa and the rolled tacos were both fantastic. If you can get one, I'd lean more for the rolled tacos, but both are excellent choices at $5 each menu item (it comes with more than one, you can read this menu for description) I can't comment on the tacos as I never received mine. My friend enjoyed hers a lot though.
I do hope management talks to their servers about what is appropriate in a situation like this. Letting a guest continue to sit under a spot where there is water...
