Update 10.30.17 Beware, this restaurant has interesting tactics to shame and pressure you too make sure you tip their crew, a crew that asks you what drink, and buses your plates. The crew member hovered and watched as I filled out the receipt. Then left the table but came back seconds later as we stood up to leave, opened the bill book and stood with it open looking for the tip. What this crew member didn't know was my son was looking for cash to tip. She was angry and held the open bill book with a debit card payment of 70+ dollars signed and she just stood there, no other guests were waiting for our table, plenty seats open, she just decided to stand there while we grabbed our jackets. She began pushing the bill book into all my guests faces, including the minors. My son found his cash and put 10% into the open and now waiting in front of him bill book, all he had, and more than enough for a buser who said one word too us in 45 min, "drinks?" and cleared our dishes twice. She dropped the book on the table in disgust and her and another buser scowled and talked about us as we walked out. This ruined an otherwise great dinner, arguably not as good as the first six visits we made, (and this was our last which I'm sure they are fine with being that the implication from their staff that a $7 tip was offensive for a greeter/bus staff at a buffet, so they would rather me spend $80 at one of 100's of other buffets in CT who don't tip shame) but that's probably because of the bad taste in my mouth after this incident.
Still liked the food for the most part and the price is fair, dropped one Star for this experience, but just an opinion of one reviewer, maybe your experience will be better.
I blame mgmt by the way, pay your buser more and they won't treat their customers like they deserve a tip like a traditional restaurant waitress would, not the buffet cafeteria style restaurant it is. Maybe have less signs dictating rules and laws for children, and time limits like I said in the first review. Paint the chipped walls from the chairs scratching and gouging them, it feels like a war on guests every time I visit here.
I blame the greeter/buser, engage in conversation, make experience memorable, ask everyone at table if they want refill, not just one. Engage in banter or improve the experience because anything more than a few dollars for waiting to bus plates seems unreasonable.
I've already spent too much time on this review, I mean no ill will or disrespect to the business, just my opinion of course, and my isolated experience. Plenty of other great reviews here, just sharing my thoughts and experiences.
Take a peak at the other reviews, many complaints about the staff and crew, and other reviews claims of racism, tip shaming, disrespect, and other behavior like this, and honestly it starts with the leadership. ...... The best quality and choices of food around, with an affordable price, but at the cost of ambiance and cleanliness.
This place suprised me, the food was really good, I would say the best in it's class. The price for lunch for 3 adults on a Sunday with drinks was $40. Making this spot the best value to quality I've ever had when comparing too the other vast amount of these types of buffets. So why four stars? I'd give a C- for cleanliness, the floors and walls were just dirty with dirt, food and dust. The booths were uncomfortable and ripped up from fair wear and tear. The bathrooms were disgusting, there was trash everywhere and the sinks were unclean. Long waits were accompanied by aggressive placement of "buffet rules". Every wall has computer printouts of rules, ranging from the 2hr table limit, to take only the food you want to eat, don't waste food. Instead of hanging pictures or decor at my booth, we had three printouts of rules. The third rule was all about children, watch them it said, they are not allowed by themselves. Most of these rules were printed in all caps with exclamation points, and because of this it took away from the experience...
Read moreI’ll preface by saying that I used to work in the area, and, under the previous management, this was my favorite restaurant to go with my son. We visited with my friend earlier this week, and the experience was awful.
If you have deadly or severe food allergies, you need to avoid this place. I explained to the hibachi chef that my son and I have deadly food allergies and asked him to clean the grill and use separate cooking instruments. He looked me in the eye and said, “Yes.” He was overly enthusiastic, so I asked him to repeat the instructions to me. He repeated, “Yes, yes.” When I asked if he understood English, he looked away. I reported the situation to the manager on the way out, who simply repeated that the chef only speaks Spanish. I asked how he’s supposed to know about deadly allergens, and the manager simply said, “Sorry.” There was no concern that my child or I could have ended up dead or hospitalized and clearly no plan to change this incredibly dangerous approach.
Incidentally, we have experienced no issue with the previous management here or at other buffets we visited making these adjustments and eating safely.
The ladies room was disgusting. One stall was broken. One stall is missing a toilet seat, which, according to another review, has been the case for over a month. The third was filthy, and the door wouldn’t latch on the fourth. I tried to explain it to a couple of the staff, whose English clearly wasn’t up to the task, and they shrugged it off and walked away.
The restaurant in general has seen better days with cleaner facilities and is in need of a new paint job and carpeting.
I saw photos of the food published by other visitors, although frankly, from the diversity and optimal quality, I suspect that review was published by someone related to management because most of the food appeared several hours old and was overheated or at the point where it almost wasn’t good. My friend ate about three small things and then stopped eating because he started to feel sick.
The selection of food wasn’t bad but also wasn’t great. There were very few vegetables, even in the salad bar area.
The best part was the seafood, which was fresh, and we also thought the sushi was fresh and flavorful.
The waitress did stay on top of clearing the table, but, as other people noted, hovered while I was paying the bill and was pushy about tips. This isn’t a full service restaurant, and a 15% or 20% tip expectation is unreasonable.
Overall, it was a poor experience and one that I will not repeat.
There is a excellent, similar buffet in Stratford at the Docks. I highly encourage people to go there instead for good service, a clean facility, healthy food, and staff with sufficient English to navigate issues.
I want to mention that I’m a former English teacher. I have no issue with someone who’s working on learning English and working hard to support themselves. However, those people should not be in frontline food service or preparation roles until they can understand and communicate sufficiently about dietary restrictions to avoid the kinds of problems we...
Read moreBecause the Texas Roadhouse in Orange had a 45 minute wait time we headed over to the Hibachi Grill Supreme Buffet in Orange. Big mistake and big disappointment! There is plenty of food and variety, but the quality of the food is mediocre at best. We waited in line at the hibachi grill but I was not impressed with what I ordered there. And in the buffet they had what looked like nice breaded shrimp. Wrong! It was the crispy tail of a shrimp poking out from a bill ball of breading.....just awful. Nothing tasted like it was fresh or anywhere near "delicious". I should have opted for the nice selection of fruit for dessert but instead chose some insipid chococate chip cookies that must have come straight from the frozen food section. There certainly is a large variety, but I must have chosen the very worst. OH, the crab looked interesting, but when I went to taste it the shell was so overly salted, one small bite was more than enough for me to go for my glass of water and request some green tea to recover from that ultra-salt experience. We have decided that buffets are just not for us. We do much better at an upscale restaurant where we order one exquisite, tasty meal and share it between...
