I debated whether or not to leave a review but after a couple months of sitting on it, here we are..
Typically I only provide reviews for the places I’ve enjoyed or had exceptional experiences at, this store meets none of that criteria. Or in the rare occasion that I’m treated like garbage, this then also constitutes a review but it took me a couple months to solidify my decision, so here we are a months after my friends wedding, I post this embarrassing experience.
I’ve been a larger guy my entire life, it’s something’s I’ve always struggled with, whether it be ridicule, everyday activities that might pose a challenge or purchasing clothes.
It’s not often that your friends commit themselves to one another through marriage, a time intended for happiness, anxiety, nervousness and the complications of organization and coordination. Being invited to participate in the bridal party for a friends wedding is always exciting but this also means I’m unable to shop at the stores I know can accommodate my size without judgement or that 10 mile stare of disgust, the feeling of not being welcomed and the posture of inconvenience are unsettling feelings. The second I walked into Backers, it felt like I was a celebrity for all the wrong reasons. I was met with wide open eyes of shock, rude comments of how difficult fitting me would be due to my size and wildly rude and offensive commentary from the owner and staff. I understand I’m a big dude and fitting me would be hard, but they didn’t need to repeatedly mention it.
I am by far the last person you’d expect sensitivity from and hence why I debated the past couple months whether or not to post this review. Well, what it comes down to is notifying others in the community that this is not the store to shop at. If you enjoy rude commentary, attitudes, unprofessionalism then this is the perfect place to shop at. During my third time at the store one of the employees or owner (no idea how everyone ranks there regarding the management hierarchy) “joked” about me getting a breast augmentation. You don’t know me, and I’ve never met any of the staff in my life, at what point was that commented thought to be something well received or even a fraction of acceptable? My dearest friends would never in the slightest even consider saying something like that and these are people I’ve known for decades. But an employee at this store thought it to be funny? I’m not laughing. In context this comment was stated after they recommended I bring my own white shirt to wear for the suit. There were other statements made but I feel as if sharing any additional aren’t necessary. The entire process of getting fitted was a disaster. Not only are the staff and ownership subpar but so is their attention to any detail regardless of the “acclaimed” high end shop. The sleeves on my jacket required hemming of approximately 4+ inches to prevent the cuff from sliding to the tips of my fingers, they “forgot” this detail even after marking it. You can even see the white marks in the photo. Without any mention of compensation or partial refund during the return to express sincerity in their mistake, or acknowledgement of their verbal/physical actions in which they had no sense of realizing how inappropriate this experience was.. I understand everyone is human but at no point did anyone in that shop feel they overstepped a boundary, it’s only about the money. They seem to not care about accommodating the rarities through dress or communication. They also did not order the proper vest, it kept riding up and despite the minimal effort exhorted into modifying the buttons, it was still a terrible experience and fit and I was unable to wear the vest the remainder of the evening after the ceremony.
Thankfully I don’t have to worry about ever going back to this store and now others can be made aware of their...
Read moreWhere do I begin? We paid over $550.00 for a cheap polyester suit from gentlemen’s guru (first pic-looked totally different online). They took forever to send it and when my fiancé put it on my heart sank!!!!!we spent hundreds on alterations and it still didn’t make a difference. It was a cheap polyester suit. We went to Backer’s and Mr. Sunny and his lovely wife saved the day. They pulled a suit which matched the groomsmen’s rented suits (also from Backers) and gave it to us at an affordable price. They got him the tux, the shirt, the tie, and the studs all at an affordable price!!!!!This is just a picture of him trying it on. Once the suit is tailored everything will be amazing. My wedding is 12 days away and they were able to do this for us! They are truly amazing! I am a happy bride. They put a...
Read moreTransitioning jobs from automotive service to sales and was in need of a whole wardrobe. Had no experience dressing up, came to Backers and Sonny did the rest. He did not try and push crazy expensive suits on me, rather advised me to get well fitting lesser expensive suits to start and build from there. I bought 2 suits, a sports jacket, several pairs of pants and several shirts. My body type required custom shirts which I was a little hesitant on the price initially but after getting them back I couldn’t be happier, they look incredible! I cannot speak highly enough about my experience at backers, the clothes look and fit amazing and Sonny and his wife were a pleasure to work with! I will certainly be a repeat customer and have already sent...
