Not one to try to harm anybody's business but I had to write this review due to the shadiness of the matter. Walked in with my wife. Our immediate reaction was to look for our parents and find a seat. And considering the fact that it was nicely dim lighting made it even more relaxing. Once they got their we immediately decided to place our orders. It's not the first time we've been there so we know exactly what we need to do in terms of how to order. The way things are sectioned on the menu, usually the prices are relatively close to each other, in small print, and with it being our father's birthday and after a long day of work it was a moment to just metaphorically let our hair down. We ordered our food, got our food and everything was dandy. When it came time for the check we paid. My wife and I are aware of how quickly sushi can be costly so that was not an issue. The issue was the fact that two pieces of nigiri were 19 dollars total. For those of you who are not familiar with nigiri, it is basically thin slice cut of raw fish on top of rice. One would think that if a customer was going to order 19 dollars of food let alone 2 small pieces of raw fish that the server would let them know especially considering the fact that 19 dollars was not the price on the paper menu. As a matter of fact, there was no price on the paper menu for the individual nigiri item. We found it to be rather an elusive tactic and unfortunately going to this restaurant means having to be on guard rather then letting your hair down to relax because you have to make sure that you are paying a reasonable price for small amounts of food. The irony is that you have to be on alert for a place that is so relaxing. Unfortunately my wife and I will no longer be...

This restaurant is terrible, DO NOT GO HERE. The sushi is mediocre at best. I usually go into Portland for sushi and decided to give this place a chance since I was looking to find a local spot. The service was awful and their menu is inaccurate to the food being served. When i mentioned something, they refused to provide what was described on the menu. One top of that, they will automatically charge you 10% gratuity for take out and charge for each individual to go box in addition to the food. I have never heard of that. If you order take out, that should be part of the item cost not a fee after the fact. Additionally, the waitstaff forgot to charge the 10% automatic gratuity for takeout and when I went back in to ask about the order that looked incorrect, she recharged my card without permission ( I had already signed for tip and she essentially voided that and charged for a higher amount to include the 10% that was never explained and refused to provide me an itemized receipt.) The server then called the owner and she said “you’re not a regular and all my regulars know that”. Clearly you don’t want new guests if you don’t care to remedy the situation and work with new customers. I rather go to Bamboo Sushi and pay $22+ a roll to get incredible sushi...

If you're going just to eat sushi, you'll have a decent to good experience. If you're going to eat any other non-sushi menu items.. let's just say I'd recommend going somewhere else like Takahashi's on holgate.

Ordered miso soup and tempura udon. The miso was basically void of any tofu or seaweed and had way too much soup base to where it was so salty that it was almost inedible (and I have a high tolerance to salty foods). Other restaurants I've been to have charged less and for far higher quality miso.

The udon broth was alright but the noodles were very clearly far too old to be served... overly chewy (not in an good, well-cooked way) and a slimy texture, with marks that I've only seen on noodles that I've left in my freezer for many months too long..

In addition the tempura was done in a very cheap way, no breading just deep fried. If that's how you like them fine, but don't sell it as traditional shrimp tempura because it's not.

Like I said, if you're wanting anything other than stuff from the sushi bar I'd recommend a better quality japanese restaurant. You will likely spend less somewhere else and still have a...

We tried several places that make sushi in the area and I was always thinking: why there is not something comparable to Masu and Bamboo? And then I found Nori. Not the same but the best I found so far in the area.. Fish is fresh, avocado is green and it seems way more authentic than the ones that just cover everything with mayo sauces . We only did take out and when my husband goes to pick it up he always comments on how nice everybody is . The quality of the sushi is worth the cost, sushi is not something I would personally try to save money on. Edit: last time we ordered sushi there the quality was definitely worse. The roll that was fried was in the same box with the raw fish rolls and the salmon was absolutely not the "melt in your mouth "kind of , it was hard and I had to make an effort to eat a few pieces , many pieces with gray avocado.. considering the money I spent for it this is my last time here.

This spot never fails to delight. Their sake selection is excellent, but their specials really shine if you're a sushi aficionado. From Kobe beef to Japanese uni, Hokkaido scallops to Ora King Salmon, Bluefin to perfectly prepared Otoro... Fresh and delicious ingredients treated with respect are the hallmark of this izakaya-style restaurant. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Parking can be challenging, so be aware if you're having trouble finding it!

Came here on a whim hoping for the best and unfortunately got below average. Fish quality is poor portion sizes are very very small, the chef cuts the fish very very thin. With all the other places in town, Sushi and Maki is far far better and less expensive you can certainly do better than this place. Staff was fine, but again I would not come back here with the quality that I was served tonight.
