This is now my go to place for casual meetups, quick noshes with the boyfriend before a night out, and drinks with friends anytime of day. We've been just 4 to 5 times in recent months, and already the friendly, fun, and talkative staff has started to greet us like old friends- an immediate major plus in my book.
Its seat yourself in the warm and inviting pub, and there's always room to squeeze in despite it comfy closeness. Never having been abroad myself, it fits perfectly in my romanticized view of what Irish pubs should be- the design looks like someone's inviting home complete with fireplace, and the booths are thoughtfully placed to accommodate large groups or just the two of us. There are always regulars engaging in converation with the staff, but it never feels like you're excluded even when you're new to the place.
Great selection of whiskey; so far we've had a few of our mainstays, a few friend recommendations, and one the bartender offered after learning our tastes.
The bartenders will also make a Black Velvet with a bottled cider, since I'm not a fan of Magners (the only cider on tap) and they're really helpful when undecided.
The food! Holy crap, the food. The scotch egg is amazing, and the sausage rolls are heavenly (my boyfriend and I have to get two orders now because we don't want to share) The stew is perfect, with huge meaty chunks and veggies, and the shrimp & crab chowder is insanely good. Get the fries with a side of gravy- I dip EVERYTHING in this gravy. I can't wait to try more off the menu - the mussels, the sandwiches, any of the savory pies. My friend is a huge fan of the Irish Nachos and gets them every time.
Restrooms are clean all the time, and we never have to wait for anything, whether it's a friendly greeting, a conversation about the super bowl half-time show, our food, or the check when we're ready to leave (which would be never if I had my choice).
A great place to be, if you're looking for a great low key date night, a rousing game of cards with friends (the booths seem to be designed with this is mind), or a quick pint in the afternoon before your friend leaves town (or work,...
Read moreI stopped in for lunch on a Monday. The server dropped off menus without a word of coming back. About 10 minutes later, the server returned. The server asked for the drink and lunch order at the same time. The person I was with ordered the steak and mushroom, but the server informed the restaurant was out of steak and didn't have corned beef due to the beef taking 3 hours to cook. We both just opted for the Irish stew. When the drinks came, the Coke was very weak and tasted more like carbonated water. It took about 5 minutes to get that resolved. It was fairly busy, but the wait was extraordinarily long for stew. About 15 minutes into waiting, we wanted to offer a beer but the server was not coming by the table. One of us had to go up to the bar to make the order ourselves. About 15 minutes later, the stew was brought out to the table. The stew had a wonderful taste and the carrots in there were amazing. However the stew was lukewarm. There was just a medium chunk of meat and one potato in my stew. The server came around once after the meal was served to ask about the meal. Once we finished the meal, the server came over to apologize due to it being so busy. The server did offer to buy dessert for the table, but we were both not willing to wait a long time again for something. The server didn't return for over 15 more minutes, so we had to go to the bar and ask the other server for our check. This made for a very poor service and food experience. The atmosphere was pleasant, and, had the food been warm, I would have rated it higher. The service from our server was not what should be expected for good...
Read moreCould not have been more disappointed in this place. Straight-up dive bar masquerading as an "Authentic" Irish Pub. Sausage roll pastry was barely browned. Waitress was inattentive, dismissive, and rude. When trying to pay my tab, she wouldn't make eye contact, or respond when being spoken to, and THEN CHARGED ME FOR THE WRONG TAB! Which, of course was higher than mine. I happened to look at itemized bill and realized it. The other staff (there seemed to be only two people working), ignored me as I stood there after asking for help, while he fixed a channel on the TV. Fortunately, when he did finally get to me, he was able to void the first transaction and charge me for my ACTUAL tab. Unfortunately, after a weak apology, he never even offered a discount or explanation, or a drink, a coupon, nothing. We had planned on having a full meal, originally, but after 6 minutes with no service, and then the waitress acting put-out because we were there, we opted for an app and drinks. I wish we would have just bailed before ordering anything. This place has two sides that are separated by a bar essentially in the middle. Staff seemed to be working the other side and ignoring ours. We would have been happy to move if it were more convenient, but no one said anything. Literally... it was like pulling teeth to get anyone to pay attention to us. I love Hard Rock and Metal, but having that music playing in the background of an "Authentic" Irish Pub is just silly. I spent 7 days all around Ireland... which is why we sought out that fare. This place, is most certainly not...
