I just got back from Kres Chophouse after having a Valentine's Dinner there. I was looking forward to my meal , dressed up for the occasion had reservations since Christmas. We sat down and when I asked for a drink the waiter assumed I meant an alcoholic one at which point we were informed that they will not be serving us any type of alcohol. I was perplexed so we asked to speak to a manager. Turns out, the hostess assumed I was a drunk because when I checked at the front upon my arrival I leaned on the counter and because I walked slowly and carefully to our table this was the reason, I was told I could not be served. I explained that I was a high school teacher and had been up since 4:30 am , worked all day was tired after a long week, got home to shower again, get ready again and go to their restaurant. Their restaurant is not level ground. There are inclines and hidden drops, stairs and the like. I explained I had knee surgery and back surgery, so I walk so slow and methodically. To hear them JUDGE MY CHARACTER ERRONEOUSLY AND ASSUME I WAS DRUNK WHEN I HAD NOTHING TO DRINK ALL DAY WAS AN OUTRAGE AND I WAS DEEPLY OFFENDED. I was being judged by this ignorant, rude hostess named Savannah and her manager named John. Further, upon my arrival, I asked how I would be informed when my table would be ready and instead of answering me she told me to stand in the corner like a child and proceeded to help the people behind me. I became suspect that they did not want to seat us because of this hostess's judgmental assessment of me; once everyone cleared out around us, they finally called us to the table. The manager did not want to hear this part, he just wanted everything swept under the table. But ironically, being totally sober, I could not contain my outrage and anger and told the manger that Savannah was rude, needed to be spoken to and he handled this situation poorly; she had a smirk on her face the entire time we were discussing this with the manager. This ignorant, rude hostess ruined by my Valentine's dinner; I could barely eat. She never even apologized, she seemed proud of herself for her dumb assumption. The Kres chop house has mediocre food with aire of thinking that their food is so great which it isn't. We happened to deviate from the Palm Steak house this year to try something different and they are a more high class establishment and would have never treated us this way. I don't recommend this place who looks down on people and judges customers in this case egregiously when they have no right. Ironically, I had to order a drink just to calm down because they upset my night so badly when I wasn't even intending to drink -- by then the waiter said the manager ok'd it once they actually had a conversation with me and could see the I was totally sober and coherent. They should have had a conversation with me to begin with and this whole debacle could have been avoided. We decided to stay and eat because it was already after 9:00 pm and it was our Valentine's dinner. They comped our food and gave us a gift card but the damage had been done and the manager should have handled this employee for erroneously judging me, treating me rudely and smirking the whole time. This would have gone a long way more than my comped food and gift card if this employee would have been handled for misjudging me. Hell will freeze over before I go there so the $100.00 gift card will go in the trash. So If you are handicapped or tired, they will think you are drunk, treat you as such and discriminate against...
Read moreWe came to Kris Chophouse to celebrate my vegan daughter’s graduation from university, and let me just say, they delivered. They offer a full three-course vegan menu every day for $49 per person. You choose your appetizer, entrée, and dessert. Naturally, we all went for it. She’s vegan, and we were fully on board. But this wasn’t one of those half-hearted “we-have-vegan-options” situations. No. This was thoughtful, creative, high-level cuisine.
For her starter, my vegan daughter had the strawberry toast. And listen, don’t picture some thick diner toast with syrup and a couple strawberries slapped on top. This was elegant. Sliced on the diagonal, buttery, delicate, with layers of flavor. I had to keep asking, “Wait… this is vegan?” It was that good.
My older daughter and I both had the vegan oyster Rockefeller, and listen, hats off to the chef. The presentation? Stunning. At first, we thought it was served on a bed of crushed ice. It was actually chunky sea salt. Thick, beautiful crystals. I even found myself wondering, can Himalayan salt be white? That’s how pretty it looked. The oyster “shell” itself? I have no idea what it was made of, but it was shaped just like a real shell and stuffed with something so rich, so umami, we went completely quiet. That kind of quiet.
For the entrées, my vegan daughter chose the vegan beef Wellington. She was impressed with every bite. I had the vegan Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Comforting and flavorful, exactly what I didn’t know I was craving. And my older daughter had the vegan lobster brisket, which was so filling she couldn’t even finish it. We took the rest home, but she couldn’t stop talking about it.
Every dish we had was 100% vegan. And I need to say this loud for the people in the back. This was not your typical boring vegan fare. No limp tofu. No sad black beans. No tired sweet potato fries. This was culinary innovation. I’ve eaten at so many places where the vegan options are just filler. Salads, Impossible burgers, a random grain bowl. But this? This was food I can’t make at home. This was restaurant-level artistry.
For dessert, my older daughter and I both had the “bookie,” a brownie-cookie hybrid that was soft, rich, and still vegan. My vegan daughter had a churro waffle with in-house made vegan ice cream, and she was clearly in another world.
Here’s the funny part. Up until dessert, we were sharing everything. “Ooh, taste this.” “Try a bite.” But once dessert hit the table, all that sharing went out the window. We were silent, just living our best dessert lives. By the time we looked up to offer my vegan daughter a taste of our bookie, it was gone. And when we glanced at her plate? Clean. Not scraped, not wiped. Just mysteriously clean.
Even the waiter noticed. He walked by and said, “Damn!” And we couldn’t even argue. She just gave a satisfied little smile and a wiggle. We were full, happy, and glowing.
We stayed a while after the meal, just chatting and soaking in the moment. The décor was sophisticated and dark, in a way that felt stylish but not stiff. Like a sleeker, modern version of old Hollywood. And our server (I think his name was Stiller?) was everything you want in a host. Attentive without hovering. For that alone, we tipped him 25%.
Bottom line? Kris Chophouse didn’t just meet the moment. They elevated it. They didn’t “make do” with vegan options. They shined. This wasn’t just a meal. It was a memory. We’ll...
Read moreI visited this restaurant last night and can say with confidence that it was the best dining experience I’ve had in my life.
It was coincidence that my girlfriend and I ended up at this restaurant, and it just so happened as the restaurant we initially tried to eat at couldn’t accommodate her dairy allergy. We called at approximately 9:45pm and were told they’d be able to seat us.
Firstly for the food:
We were pleasantly surprised to find that Kres offered a full vegan menu, as well as substitutions to accommodate my girlfriend’s allergy. She opted for the 3-course vegan meal so as to not compromise the quality and intention behind regular dishes through alterations. She ate the vegan escargot, vegan beef wellington, and the strawberry & blueberry lemon bar Sunday. Not only was the food quality and presentation exceptional, but the price point made it feel like a steal. Even though she isn’t vegan, she’s adamant that it is the best meal she’s ever had.
For my meal, I opted for the steak tartar, the beef Wellington, and the bread pudding. The tartar was easily the best I’ve ever had, the Wellington was incredible, and the bread pudding (based on Bo’s recommendation) was an excellent way to finish the meal. Again, the price point for my meal was worth every single penny.
It was evident that not only is good quality produce used, but there is a genuine effort to provide an accommodating and fantastic food quality by the individuals creating the menu and preparing it. The portions are generous for a fine dining experience; neither her or I could finish all of our dessert.
Secondly, the service:
Our server Bo was absolutely fantastic. There are not enough positive words to adequately describe his professionalism and the quality of his service. We were made to feel welcome and treated as though we mattered. No detail was missed, up to and including removing any crumbs off our table between courses. He knew the wine and food menu fluently and was able to make recommendations on items based on the experience we were looking for. Additionally, he was able to recommend other local establishments for us to visit during our stay which turned out to be an absolute hit. Kres closes at 11pm but Bo took care to make sure we didn’t feel rushed and allowed us to finish our meals at our own pace without a single mention of the time.
This dining experience was the highlight of our entire vacation. I sincerely hope we have the privilege of dining at...
