Genovese's Italian Café — Restaurant in Ormond Beach

I ordered online a takeout on 11.03.23 the eggplant Parmigiano entree.

Utter disappointment. It was one of those meals where I was hungry enough to force myself to eat it. But I hate it actually.

The eggplant was hard and chewy. The breaded part was literally more like mixed with sauce and was more like an undercooked stuffing.

The soup was mideocre and tasted like a high school Cafe soup.

The spaghetti was slightly on the hard side and the sauce didn't taste extraordinary like it was from Italy or something.

I am disappointed because there was hype around some of the reviews and the place was busy enough that I thought I scored on a good one.

But no. Mideocre at best. After taste wasn't great either because most of it wasn't cooked properly/undercooked.

I could have gone on to a restaurant I tried yesterday called Vince over on s young where over there the sauce was actually tasting like it was something from Italy.

The sauce at Genovese tasted like a tomato paste. Nothing special about it.

Undercooked meal with nothing special about the taste with a meal that was actually some disgusting is why the 1 star.

But the lady brining out the food was friendly hence why I gave a blend mix of 3 stars on the service. But the 3 star is particularly for the lady that handed me the food and NOT the food itself.

Even worst im actually feeling sick after eating it. They should really check on the person that makes this dish because having hard eggplant that you can barely chew is totally unacceptable!!! Im actually upset 😡 that this meal made me sick. NO GEVOVESE...

I used to like Genovese and have been eating there now and then over the years. Not sure what happened but this place has really gone downhill. I had a terrible experience here!!!Tried to have dinner there tonight with my husband. We sat down and ordered food. When the waitress brought our appetizer the plates were dirty. When we pointed this out to the waitress she seemed annoyed that we asked for new plates. Then she brought a new set and the new plates had sauce on them. When we showed the waitress that those were dirty too. She was not apologetic she just took them and then I saw her stand outside the kitchen her wiping the plates off and bringing the same plates back. At this point I asked to speak to a manager who must have been cooking too. He came out with a filthy apron and said to me when I said that two sets of dishes were brought to the table dirty. He said, it happens. Don’t take it personal. I said i am not taking it personal. I said I know it’s not personal but it is gross. How can your waitress be bringing dirty plates for customers to eat on. At this point the manager said to me. Well I can’t control that things get mixed up. I can’t believe he said that. He also said he didn’t know how dirty the plates were so is he saying that a little dirt is ok? I said what does it matter how dirty???? it Is disgusting. I wouldn’t go there ever again!!! Now this review is not so easy to say because I love Genovese's cheese calzones. I order them religiously and I have always loved and spoken highly of this restaurant. Unfortunately this most recent visit that I had was extremely disappointing. I ordered my normal cheese calzone, this time I even asked for extra cheese. I don't know whether it was because it was an hour before they closed or that it was a Saturday and they were tired because of the weekend rush. Disappointingly the calzone that I got was not only overcooked with hard outer crust instead of the soft cheesy gooey calzone that I enjoy, it looked exactly the same a regular calzone without any extra cheese . So they charged me for extra cheese but didn't give me anything extra and on top of that they overcooked my calzone which made the thing that I love and was looking forward too after working all day just a great disappointment. Then to top it off the casher was polite at first but after she annisiated her greeting she walked away while I was trying to conversate back to get my order which is completely understandable but when she returned she didn't hand it to me or say anything at all she just walked up and put it on the counter while she was looking at her computer and not even giving me simplest acknowledgment at all just went that right back to what...
