We met up with a group of friends at Thai Erawan for a Saturday afternoon lunch. The restaurant wasn’t very busy so our server was able to handle the eight of us easily. I started off with water and lime while I perused the lunch menu. There were plenty of specials to choose from, as well as many standards you would expect at a Thai place. Most of the other people ordered Chicken Pad Thai while I had Chicken Panang Curry. Any of the dishes could be made with chicken, beef, pork, or shrimp. All of the main entrées came with a crispy spring roll, Jasmine rice and a choice of chicken soup or vegetable soup. I also ordered a Thai Iced Tea, and it was quickly served in a Mason jar with a handle. Very tasty, and not overly sweet. My Chicken Panang Curry came on a long rectangular plate with a low pyramid of rice. There were large chunks of zucchini and plenty of chicken and curry sauce. It was slightly spicy but not too hot. To heat it up more there was ground red pepper and another spicy red sauce on the table, served with tiny spoons. Everything was delicious. At the end, we were each served two small chunks of honeydew melon plus two small chunks of pineapple with a toothpick for dessert (in lieu of a fortune cookie). It was a nice touch. The decor and atmosphere were very authentic. Because we had a table for eight an automatic 20% gratuity was added to each bill. Service was good so a few folks in our group added a dollar cash. The prices were fair ($9.50-$13.50 range for entrées) so I felt it was a good value. I would recommend Thai Erawan for groups and families for a casual yet classy lunch. I hope this is helpful to you. Thanks...
Read moreTried this restaurant for lunch based on reviews and was very dissatisfied. We ordered three different curry dishes and waitress didn't seem to be able to effectively communicate or didn't genuinely care to answer questions I asked. Though the meal came quickly, the portions were very small and worse, cold and lacked flavor. The soup was hot but tasted like water with old, hard rice and several pieces of scallion on top. I wouldn't even add salt as it really shouldn't even be served. The spring roll was greasy, over stuffed with cabbage but the sweet and sour sauce was acceptable though reminded me of commercial MaPloy Brand. The Penang tasted like a soup made from cheap peanut butter with squash and peppers. Besides being spicy, it was unremarkable and cold. The Green Curry had green beans, with a thin, coconut base but the flavor is dull and spicy as well as being served cold. Seemed as if they were prepared well in advance or maybe put in a microwave quickly. Kefir leaves and indigenous flavors other than the hot spice was severely lacking. We didn't finish our meals as they just were not satisfying to eat.
Bringing my concerns to the waitress received a perplexed look, no apology and a quick bill for $39.00. Having traveled extensively throughout much of Asia, I can appreciate various styles of cuisine, but this is a poor attempt in futility. COLD FOOD, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND INGREDIENTS THAT ARE SUBSTANDARD IS A RECIPE...
Read moreLived here for 3 years so far and it's astounding that I have never been told of this place. My girlfriend and I discovered it while walking through the shops by beachside and noticed the beautiful decor (from the ouside!)... Needless to say, we made it a point to come by and check it out. Boy are we glad we did! Our waiter, Paul, greeted us from the moment we stepped through the door and was extremely attentive. He was sure to inform both of us of everything we needed to know about the dishes we inquired about. We shared the Chicken Pad See Ew dish after the Thai Sampler appetizer. The prices seemed to be on the mid to high end at first glance, but when the entree was delivered to our table, we were both delighted to see the amount and quality of the chicken and just the dish as a whole. From the hand-carved wooden pillars to the custom lighting, it's clear that presentation and decor are taken seriously here. The atmosphere is comfortable and stimulates a relaxed mood while creating the impression that you're actually in Thailand. The bathrooms were clean as could be, not to mention gorgeous. Finished dinnerware was removed promptly. We will be...
