Disappointed! I rarely ever take the time to write negative reviews... but the owner of this restaurant was such a jerk to me! I visited the restaurant in late April after their big "Best Grill" sign caught my eye as I was driving by. It was about 4pm, I had volunteered to help a local Charity Foundation called GAP Ministries by asking nearby businesses if they might be willing to help through possibly donating an item, gift card or service for an upcoming event raffle which raises funds which support foster kids in the community. Upon my simple inquiry, the Chef/ Owner immediately started verbally attacking me because... I myself, had never dined in his restaurant. He went on and on in an angry rant about how dare I ask for a donation if I had never even tried eating their my self. I explained that I didn't intend to offend him that I live on the other end of Tucson and was simply volunteering to help a charity. He looked at me and said "where do you take your family to eat?... then gestured toward my waist line and said probably you eat junk!!" He proceeded to take out his cell phone pull up yelp and tell me that he was the best chef in all of Tucson and in his category in the entire west coast. That he had been in the news papers and didn't seem to buy the fact that I had never heard of his establishment. I explained that I have a baby on the way and don't go out to eat but on special occasion but that I would never come back because his ego is so big there would be no room to sit, and shame on him for being so cold and offensive in his rejection... I was simply their as a volunteer for a Foster Care charity! Look folks, his food may be great... I am not weighing in on that now. I am simply saying, what makes a local restaurant wonderful isn't limited to the quality of the food but the integrity of the proprietors and how they treat patrons. I NEVER approached him with an attitude or expectation of support... truth be told it was difficult and awkward to be asking business owners out of the blue for support. I volunteer for local charities like this one because I believe the mission is bigger than my pride and the need was worth the temporary inconvenient-awkwardness... In the end, I had so many surprisingly generous & and supportive business owners and managers that I will always refer business to because of their kindness and tact... even when the answer was NO. So Chef Alisah, If you are reading this... our Tucson community has supported your restaurant for many years (as you pointed out while lecturing me) ... If you decide that a local charity like GAP Min. does not inspire your support in their time of need, that's okay... really... but to belittle the guy volunteering to help them is quite unacceptable!.. which is why you sir, EARNED THIS 1 STAR REVIEW! I'll stick to my "Junk Food" I guess. BTW ... Every Business that donated or at least supported by giving out invitations to the fundraiser... helped to raise over $8000 for this amazing local charity and ALL of them Received 5 star reviews on both google and yelp as an...
Read moreMy friends and I wanted to try some European food while we were in the Tucson area and boy we were pleasantly surprised! Chef Alisah's serves delicious Bosnian food! We have never had Bosnian food before and chose several different items to share.
We first got the Bosnian soda, Cockta (1.5 L) it tastes like a delectable herbal Coke. Then we got one of the appetizers: Bosnian Style Tzatziki and Ajvar (Vegetable Spread). The Tzatziki sauce was super good and tasted very fresh and light. It was smooth and we loved the taste and texture. It was also our first time trying Ajvar, which was a sweet and flavorful spread. After trying it, we really wanted to learn to make it ourselves because it was that good! These two sauces tasted perfect with the bread that was served alongside it!
We ordered the 2 person Surprise Platter (we were a group of three and wanted to order another dish to try too and also ordered the Cabbage dish.) And wow. We can see why this dish was called the surprise platter. At first the cabbage salad (perfectly dressed with the right amount of sour) came out. Right after that the Surprise Platter came out. We couldn't help but exclaim with surprise by the gigantic size of that thing! WOW! It came with broccoli/carrots with cheese, kebab, chicken, gyro with Tzatziki sauce, beef sausages, and chicken sausages. It was one of the best things I have had in a while. Everything on that platter was delicious. The beef sausages were delicious and tasted great with the bread served. The chicken was moist and perfectly seasoned. Best of all was the kebab! We thought we could soldier through and finish the entire thing but there was so much food we had to take more than half of it home! (Yum! Leftovers!)
The Cabbage dish was also super delicious! When it came out, the delightful smell of the dish captivated us! The rice was really good but a bit salty. The cabbage tasted buttery soft and melted in the mouth. Combined, the dish was perfect. It left us wanting more!
We loved the food here so much that we ordered the baklava to-go to eat later at home since we were too stuffed to eat anything else at the moment. We went home and tried the baklava and it was just the perfect amount of sweet and syrupy. One of the better baklavas that I've had.
The server was awesome and very sweet and the owner even came out to see how we were doing. The service was amazing and we would come back to this place just for that!
If I'm ever near Tucson, I will definitely be returning here to try more of...
Read moreIn the desert state of Arizona lies something that is gushing with flavors that is out of this world. I wanted to try this place real bad so when I found out they closed at 2:30PM, I made it my mission to waste some time until 5PM during my road trip. And let me tell you it was worth every minute waiting. The chef is none other than the owner which goes my Omeet. 9 years ago he opened this restaurant with having all halal ingredients. I came in and was wowed by the purple decor, decorated with Bosnian flags and paintings. I was really impressed and a woman came out to take our orders. We ordered Cockta ( cherry Bosnian coke ) and Jupi ( Orange Bosnian Fanta). The Cockta was amazing and it was fun saying the word to my friend multiple times. It was so good and I don't even like soda at all. Anyways we ordered the Bosnian sausages with bread, the chicken and mushrooms, Qulas- Bosnian style goulash.
The Bosnian style sausages came in 10 or 15 and you know me, I got the 15! Of course the 15 was fried, tender beef sausages. It came with the Bosnian bread and it was amazing. Combined with the sauce they offer you and also the appetizer we got was the sweet cream which complements the sausages really really well. sweet, a little bit of salty cream with the flavorful sausages.
The chicken and mushrooms was unlike any other. Chicken breasts covered with buttery flavorful sauce with a side of lightly cooked rice with butter. It was one of the best chicken dishes I have tasted in my life!
Now for the Qulas which is basically like a beef stew with sauce covered with a tomato based sauce rich in flavor. And it comes with the same kind of delightful rice that comes with the chicken and mushrooms.
Oh they also come with salad and usually salads are throwaways for the most part because no one cares about them at all but this salad, THIS salad! It was delicious! I had to finish every last bite because it was so good. It was made with lettuce and topped with olive oil, black pepper. It was the bomb!
While we were eating, Omeet came out personally to give us a secret dish which was kind of like the Qulas but had a different kind of taste. It was like beef stew with tomato sauce. And OMG the beef was so tender and just mesmerizing.
This experience, with the food plus service has got to be my favorite meal I've ever had. That's how great it was. The only negative part of this place is that they are so far away from San Francisco!!!!!!!! I'm going to miss it so much but I will definitely come...
