HuHot Mongolian Grill — Restaurant in Oshkosh

To begin, my rating of the service at HuHot isn't zero stars but rather I didn't choose to rate that category; I was somewhat aggravated by the fact that I was asked for a tip at the time we paid for our meal, which was when we initially sat walked in ( before we sat down to eat ) and then we never saw a waitress for the remainder of the time we were in the restaurant -- we filled our drinks ourselves and only had one plate of food each. I added somewhere in the neighborhood of 15 to 20 percent to my overall bill for the tip and didn't see a waitress to be able to begin to justify that extra expense. And before anyone clamors about the fact that the cooks need tips, too, let me address that by saying that I did put cash in the tip jar as I walked around the grill.

Aside from the ahead-of-time tip issue, which I know how to address in the future, the meal was very enjoyable and I relished every bite of the meal that is shown in the pictures. I always enjoy every trip to HuHot, be it in Oshkosh, Appleton or Green Bay locations as I've frequented all three of these restaurants. We were fortunate that the time we chose to eat was just after 1:30 PM on Father's Day and the lunch hour rush was already over. I asked them not to cook off all my sauce so what did they do they throw it on the grill and before stirring it most of the sauce was already cooked off. I told them three times that I wanted saucey the one guy said to me well you can go back and put more sauce on it it told them that that would not work because it is a combination of the the different sauces I told them that now it was not going to taste good. The manager said to me that we have to make sure the meat is cooked. I told them it's chicken it cooks fast😕 They cut their meat ultra thin so it cooks fast how come Tony and Kendra could cook it perfectly!!!!!! Also my husband asked the cook to steam his broccoli he even explained how to do it and he didn't do it, so when I was in line he proceeds to cut into the broccoli and I spoke up and said twice that my husband want the broccoli done more. He didn't cook it any longer! This was the worst meal I have ever gotten from there and I have been going to sad Hu hut sense it opened in appleton. How sad when I got home with my birthday meal from there I couldn't even eat it when you cook all the sauce off it doesn't take the same. I ended up throwing it out after 2 bites it was awful!!! Food is as I remember it being over the years. No disappointment there. Price has gone up. $20 per person if you want something other than water.

No LTO sauces or ingredients that I could see. Door host/greeter was very impersonal, didn't seem to show any interest in anything. Asked how many. Gave a receipt and said nothing else. Are we seating ourselves? Does it matter where? Not going to maybe be courteous and offer to get a high chair or at least direct us to the high chairs for our toddler? And when the screen asks if we want to give a tip...? For what? Barely saying a word to us? No thanks.

After searching. Found the high chairs. All but one were filthy and not cleaned. Booth area was fairly dirty. Crumbs. Window ledge dirty and had dead bugs laying around.

Visited Monday 4-24-23 after 6pm.

The positives were at least the food was good. Tried a few new sauce ideas per the posted ideas. Didn't like one of them and my kid didn't like his. Sad to see that food go to waste but I get it.

4.5 stars for quality of food. At least employees were cleaning the food contact surfaces and buffet area. Seems the rest of the restaurant is neglected. Not giving me enough reasons to want to go back anytime...
