New menu..New Owners?? After coming to this place for over 30 years I've seen the prices skyrocket, food consistency go down and portions shrink. Asked for Eggs with country fried steak. This always came with hash browns like every other restaurant on the planet. No hash browns and it's $16. I asked for my eggs over medium. They're over easy and the whites are runny. The waitress asked me how I wanted my eggs. I told her over medium. She looked right at me and said over medium? And I said yes over medium please. Later she asked how the food was. I told the waitress That my eggs were not cooked properly and she walked away. She brought me hash browns though when I questioned why I didn't get them. "No charge" 🤭 $16 more than pays for it. The waitress also told me they're doing the same to many other meals. Removing ingredients and sides that were always standard. If you want chilaquiles with any kind of meat it's well over $20 for the breakfast. I'm done here. The Google description on maps says $10-$20. It should really say$20-$30 per meal. I attached a picture of my watery eggs and the extra plate they had to bring the hash browns out on. I put some hash browns on my plate before I thought to include a picture. My daughter asked for fruit. They never brought the fruit. The waitress even came back after she took our order to verify the fruit was extra and not in place of the hash browns. My daughter said, "Both the hash browns and the fruit please.", No fruit. This place has definitely changed for the worse. Sad. I used to take my kids here when they were babies. Life goes on. They won't miss me. I'll miss the old owner and staff. Some people don't mind spending $25+ a plate for breakfast. I do. Never again. Just fyi...it's not just this visit. It's been getting worse. This was just...
Read moreI was not aware that the He-Man breakfast was a food challenge, only that I was hungry, but, by finishing it, I left with a new t-shirt.
My meal was quite good. The gravy was a little bland but mixed with the biscuits, chopped steak, pepper jack cheese and four eggs over medium, it worked quite well. Had I only biscuits and gravy it might have required a bit of doctoring.
The atmosphere was quite nice, very homey in appearance and it reminded me fondly of the sort of decor a grandmother might like, and it worked quite well. We were desperate for some battery power and the wait staff was kind enough to let us plug in.
The restaurant was not overly crowded, but we were there between meal times having a late breakfast. My significant other had a spinach omelet that she said was good. The only thing wrong with her meal was the pepper that found its way into her plate. Thinking it a green pepper, she ate it, only to find it was actually a jalapeno. "Our jalapenos are very hot," admitted the server.
The prices were high to me, but I am from downstate Illinois and am not used to Chicago area pricing. I do not feel the prices were unfair and I do believe we got good value for our money, but it caught me by surprise when I first looked over the menu.
This restaurant came recommended to us by an area native, a friend of mine, and I have to say that he did not steer us wrong.
If you find yourself in the Montgomery area, you should stop in and say hi and stay for a bite. Small town folks will be surprised by the pricing, but city dwellers will probably find that there is good value with the generous portion sizes and...
Read moreWas in town visiting friends and this was close by. It is a great place for breakfast, but I would not consider anything past that after my experience with their attempt at liver and onions. The servers are all attentive and very friendly. The seating area is comfortable with nice size tables and there's room between them. My first visit was breakfast and it was outstanding. I had eggs over easy, chicken fried steak, and hash browns with toast. It was so filling, that I didn't eat again that day. Second visit was a BLT with fries. A lot of lettuce, hardly any bacon, and pretty good hand cut fries. My last visit was the liver and onions debacle. The liver would have good if it wasn't swimming in juice from the corn. The onions weren't grilled, but lightly sauteed in vegetable oil and slimy. The instant mashed potatoes were served on a separate plate with a small amount of gravy. Why they put the corn with all it's juice on the plate with the liver and the mashed potatoes with gravy on a separate plate is beyond me. I had about 3 bites of the liver and some of the potatoes before I threw in the flag. The owner, who is apparently the only one allowed to operate the cash register, asked me how everything was and I told him that they should remove that item from their menu or learn how to make it. He became somewhat defensive and reduced my bill by $2.85 never once apologizing for the mess they tried charge...
