Jose Pepper's — Restaurant in Overland Park

I went to this Jose peppers on Friday August 6th and sat at the bar. I wanted some tacos so I ordered their 2 crunchy tacos with beef and also ordered a strawberry frozen margarita. The tacos and the margarita were all amazing and so good. But unfortunately my experience went from being great to very disappointing once I asked for silverware to eat my rice because I wasn't served silverware. I asked the man behind the bar for silverware and he politely handed me some. As I began to unwrap my silverware I started to notice that I was served dirty silverware and that was unacceptable. I have NEVER been served dirty silverware at any restaurant before and could not believe it. My silverware had food on it and was not cleaned at all. I immediately called for a manager and waited for him to come. The manager was very nice and apolized for the experience I had. He also immediately told me that he was covering my food and drink and how sorry he was. The reason that I have decided to give three stars is because of how professional the manager was and how he immediately gave me everything for free because he could tell how upset I was and how Unacceptable it is to be served dirty silverware at a restaurant. Even though the manager did take accountability for his staff's actions I will not be going back to this...

This is the BEST Mexican food I have EVER eaten!!! And I have been around a while! Everything we ordered was delicious and beautifully presented. Even the freshly made, crisp tortilla chips and salsa they gave us for free was the best I've ever experienced! NO, I AM NOT RELATED TO THE OWNER! We live in Alabama and were in town for a wedding. The only disappointment I had was when I looked Jose Pepper's up on line and learned they have no locations in my area. I am not kidding - I did this at the table. I bragged about it to my brother and sister and then offered to bring them over to try it. We went immediately. They agreed!! I must admit I am sort of glad that I can only eat here when I am 10 hours away from my home, visiting my family (or hanging out with #TaylorandTrav) - because it is so delicious I would gain weight. Seriously. Oh, and the service was friendly, prompt and excellent as well. Our waiter even bagged up some extra chips and salsa for me! (His suggestion, not mine) ...We will definitely be back on our next visit to...

I've been a customer since 1988, so this review reflects my entire experience with this location. The recipes are legit, the margs are just what you expect, and there's no skimping on chips and salsa as long as you ask please. The atmosphere is casual and friendly, and if you're in a hurry you can order from the bar. The service over the last 36 years has been at least 3.9 stars, and this last visit was a solid 5. Isabella told me more than once that she was new, but she got the order just right and was attentive and quick. They do train their people well. I don't remember a time when the kitchen was slow or sloppy, or the ingredients weren't fresh and tasty (this includes the south OP location by my home and the Olathe location I used to frequent). I have budgeted one dinner out and one pizza delivery per month, and October 2024 was perfect. I'm a single dad with a special needs 9-year old and a limited income for my zip code, so a lot of thought goes into our entertainment budget. Thanks José Pepper's and keep up...
