A good Middle Eastern option with a little different twist on flavors vs a lot of other Middle Eastern restaurants I have been to. From what they said I gather their dishes are rooted specifically in Egyptian cuisine.
The Hummus was nice. The Baba Ghanoush was pretty good, maybe not quite as smokey as some. The dolmas were very different but interesting to try - they were smaller, a little dry, with an unusual spice kick, I want to say allspice or cinnamon as opposed to olive oil and lemon or a red sauce. The falafel was a little more finely ground, strongly spiced, and crunchy, with a pretty good tahini sauce.
The Koshari had elbow macaroni and a red sauce, a different twist than I have personally seen. Topped with lots of tasty fried onions, and served with a side of vinegary hot sauce - also used on the hummus.
They had some pita sandwiches which were pretty reasonable price wise.
The main entrees each came with an appetizer plate including a very small dollop of hummus and three small pieces of pita with a small crunchy salad topped with a nice strong salted oregano dressing. (The bread was more than enough for the portion size.)
Main entrees looked to be around 17-18 at a glance, portions made for a reasonably filling meal, but a little on the small side for the price - definitely don't expect leftovers.
The atmosphere was pleasant, sectioned off somewhat into various little seating areas and they had a nice outdoor seating area between the buildings for pleasant weather. The entrance is between the buildings around the side.
The sampler platter was pretty good, but with four very small pieces of pita - which actually ended up being enough because it only includes a little baba ghanoush, maybe two dollops and disappointingly no hummus aside from the tiny appetizer. Also three dolmas, three falafel, and mostly rice. The rice was good, but if you take away the filler it didn't leave much. (There are some other great options in the metro that include more variety and more of each dish. But still a worthwhile option to try for something with a little different twist and it would be nice to have nearby, everything was pretty good.)
The service was friendly and helpful.

Read moreMy wife and I went to The Basha Cuisine today for lunch. We hadn’t been in quite a while, even though we live close. We were greeted with kindness and warmness not found in most spots we visit. They let us know they recently renovated, brightened up the interior, and were installing many new pieces of artwork. Honestly, it felt great and we were instantly excited! The food was to die for! My wife ordered the vegetarian mixed plate and I the mixed grill plate. We also needed an order a falafel to get those taste buds prepped for the main course. EVERYTHING was absolutely delicious and we were loving our meal. We both almost made “happy plates”, but needed a little to-go box for later. Needless to say the leftovers didn’t make it very long. After a couple of hours, we looked at each other and decided we better finish those off! I highly recommend The Basha. It will now be our go to restaurant for Mediterranean food in Overland Park and we won’t look back. It’s literally a no brainer. We eat ethnic foods almost exclusively, and this spot definitely ranks in our top 5 in Kansas City. Thanks Basha for welcoming us, treating us with the hospitality as if we were old friends, and providing us with a delicious dining experience that we will not soon forget. Your biggest...
Read moreI ordered the chicken shawerma plate with a lavender lemonade. The food was great. I was worried the salad dressing would be spicy because of its color, but it was delicious. The shawerma was near my spiciness limit, though I'm weird - I think black pepper is spicy, but apparently ancho chili seasoning is okay. I don't usually have an issue with shawerma seasonings. I ate it with the garlic sauce, and the sauce helped reduce the heat while still being flavorful. The garlic sauce was great! Creamy and I think it had dill in it, which I love. I think the lemonade is made in-house because I could taste/feel the sugar after I'd let it sit for a minute. I'm surprised they didn't use a simple syrup since I think the lavender flavor was a syrup. Regardless, it was delicious, and I just stirred it before I drank each time.
They don't mention what type of lettuce is used in the salad, and I hope they don't use iceberg, but I can't tell.
The atmosphere is nice. The server and hostess were nice and on top of the service. The food came out hot and quick, though I didn't come at a busy time.
Overall, I enjoyed the food and experience, and I will be...
