We ordered through the app which was simple enough and offered ample opportunity to customize orders and or get a variety of food. We used the promotional flyer for 20% off so it saved us $6 and change. I didn’t have exceptional expectations but the food looked solid and we were looking for a quick meal since my wife & I and our 4 kids have not been feeling well. We placed our order and it was ready in the 23min quoted at time of purchase which we appreciated. I ordered “curbside” pick up so I pulled up the the restaurant and hit “I’m HERE” on the app. Also a large poster on the store front window had a phone number that said to “If we failed to see you call and we’ll bring it out” so I did that too just in case that would be faster. The lady I spoke with said “yes your order is ready. Come get it!” Why offer curbside, have a poster on your store front window but yet not do the very service you offer both on the app and your window?? Like I said we have been sick and wanted to avoid going in the store but the less than helpful lady who I spoke with told me to “come get it!” and hung up. We got home and the food was hot. We ordered 4 bowls, 2 spicy regular size & 2 junior along with an extra side and 2 appetizers. I tried everything. Everything was pretty bland, even the spicy dishes. Overall the app was easy to order, the food was timely, hot but the lack of customer service/curbside delivery and bland less than stellar food we likely won’t...

Tried this place recently, but unfortunately there is no reason to return. The flavors are just not there at all. The brown rice was dry and honestly you'd get better from those microwave brown rice bowls at Costco or Sam's Club. The chicken katsu wasn't bad overall, but the breading is nothing I'd ever call katsu. The vegetables were just bland and pretty boring. It sort is modeled the way a BiBiBop, where you choose veggies, protein, etc for your bowl, but it just missed the mark. We moved from Hawaii, so we're always on the lookout for some good Pacific/Asian food places, but this was pretty bland. I know it's Kansas City so we are not expecting the same level of flavors or authenticity, but we've found places in KC that do hit the mark, so it's not out of the question.
I will say they do have a great selection of gluten free options, which our daughter requires due to celiac disease, so that is a consideration.
The cups say "created in Japan, perfected in Seattle.." or something like that, but we didn't taste anything even reminiscent of actual Japanese food. It's Asian "themed" food, not...
Read moreThis has quickly become one of my favorite restaurants for lunches! The chicken is fantastic and not overcooked and I love that the veggies are mostly cabbage. Highly recommend if you're looking for a less greasy chicken and rice dishes.
UPDATE: Two weeks later the chicken breast teriyaki bowl was removed from the ordering page. I tried the regular teriyaki bowl and was extremely disappointed because it was assorted cuts of chicken, including dark meat and the menu does not advertise this. I do not personally like dark meat and the rest of the chicken was chewy, fatty pieces. I couldn't finish my bowl which was a bummer compared to previous orders from this restaurant so I knocked my review down to a 4 star because I could not order what I actually like.
If the breast returns to the order screen, I may give this another try but I have zero interest in eating here again based off this current bowl.
UPDATE: Chicken breast is where it is at! Bumped back up to 5 stars because I can order what I like there.
If you are not a fan of dark meat, I do not recommend the regular teriyaki bowl but you cannot go wrong...
