I have been to this place several times and ever since the first time, this place starts to look worse and worse. This Gen (which is part of a chain restaurant) is pretty bad after trying the original Gen in Tustin. The first time I tried this place was magical, it was shiny and modern and the plates of meat they gave us was not questionable. Our server was M.I.A. at times but I was too distracted with the shiny objects and how this became the first AYCE (All-you-can-eat) KBBQ in the county. (All that experience is covered in my blog). The second time I came here our server told us we can order four plates at a time (with a party of four) and I started to see they did not give us a lot of meat at a time and we had to wait until the next round of meat came. Third time I went with someone who has been to more KBBQs than one can count on their fingers. It was a waiting game and we had to talk to other servers who kept saying; "I'll get your server." Really? The Gen in Tustin is all servers share all the customers. This recent time a couple of weeks ago is we had a party of 24 and it was ONE server!! And what really got to me was there were two male servers standing in the corner, where the computers to input the orders, talking to one another. Our poor server was spread super thin and you would think it would be a two person effort to accommodate for a party that size. Other than that one pays for atmosphere not the food. The food itself is not marinated properly and how much meat you get per plate is a joke. . . a really sad joke where you don't know whether to laugh or cry about it. =/ I give it a two star because it's a clean place and I haven't found any hair, insect, or a dead rodent anywhere, but since servers really ruin the experience, there's lack of management, and what's it worth, it grinds me; hence a one star. If this Gen is suppose to be the stage of a new movement of food places to pop up here in the Ventura County, then they better try harder. If you have the money to cash out then I suggest trying it at LEAST ONCE (if you have to) because there are far better places in Los Angeles that would...

Enjoyable food but terrible service. I have been coming for years and I genuinely like KBBQ, but one of the servers here is absolutely terrible. I went a few months back and the server was very rude to my family. She acted as if she couldn’t understand them despite them speaking fluent English. She’s genuinely a racist person. I would never recommend this location to another Asian person. Other races will have a lovely time as she actually will serve them.
I went today, and she exhibited the same behavior. She took a while to seat my table, even though there were only 2 tables dining at the time. She pretended as if she couldn’t understand me and even laughed at my order, and not in a teasing manner. She tried to ignore me and only talk to my friend. My white friend ordered AFTER me yet received her dishes 2 minutes after the order was placed. I reminded the server 16 minutes after mine was placed and she put on a smile and told me to be patient. I received my order 22 minutes later. Every time I tried to get her attention she brushed me off or told me she’d be right back. I had to ask for kimchi 4 times, and she insisted that she brought it, ignoring the fact that our table was empty. When my friend asked for it, it was brought out right away. When I asked for just one more side of cabbage kimchi, she disappeared for a half hour and then dropped off cucumber kimchi. She also waited until we were nearly done to change our grill, and at that point the whole thing was black. The table across from us were Latinos and it was clear that she was paying extra attention to them. I wouldn’t mind if it was just a one off thing, but as more customers came, she kept prioritizing Latino tables. She gave them their orders 2-7 minutes after they were placed. She brushed aside an Asian couple that came in as well as white tables. It’s disgusting that she possesses this level of bigotry and prejudice.
Do not go if you are Asian. You will receive the wrong orders, get crappy service, and...
Read moreThis place really put me in the tough spot to write this review. My husband and I came from LA county and we might be used to with real Korean bbq in Korea town,That’s why this place quite a disappointed. First of all the ban chan or side dishes,That was the first things suppose to be on the table with varieties of yummy veggies, pickles, salad, kimchi etc. doesn’t matter you’ll eat all of them or not because that’s How Original Korean people do when they eat Korean bbq but with this place you’ll have to order those side dishes with your server,They’ll not bring it unless you ask for,Which I have never experience this in any Korean bbq place I’ve been to.I understand they might try to save cost by not wasting those left over side dishes but it’s just not How Korean bbq place suppose to be. Meat quality was not great but wasn’t bad either,I would give them a OK quality. The most disappointed item I would have to give it to “Thin Slice Beef Brisket” Though.Normally when you put this kind of brisket on the grilled it would almost melted and when you eat the texture should be soft and melted into your mouth but the brisket here was tough and chewy,Which this was my first time I had a slice brisket that was this hard. Another things I have to talk about was the tofu stew soup. They serve in a small bowl with a plastics spoon just like what you get from a cheap buffet.I have never seen any Korean bbq place does that! It will usually serve in a hot stone bowl,So it will remain hot for a while but the soup taste wasn’t bad,It’s was another a OK again. The best things on this visit was staffs,They are all so great! Make sure we got what we want,Grilled had changed as much as we want,Every time someone walked by they’re always make sure we’re doing ok,Love it! So the stars was basically for the service. Overall in my personal opinion,This place wasn’t a great or awesome Korean bbq but it’s wasn’t bad either,It was OK. Will we come back for a second time when we’re in the area? We’ll have to think...
