Tasty Pot in Oxnard has some pretty good Taiwanese hot pot soups. The food was decent, and the service was good—not amazing, but solid. What really would have made the experience better was a little guidance when we walked in.
No one asked if it was our first time, and there was no explanation about how the hot pot works, the spice levels, or the condiments available. The broths on their own are pretty bland, and I only realized after the fact that they have condiments on the side you can add to enhance the flavor—things like salt, sugar, and spice. But no one told us that, and I accidentally made my soup a little too spicy by guessing.
If someone had explained that to us up front, I think the meal could have gone from just okay to something really memorable. Also, the portions are huge. I wish someone had suggested that my girlfriend and I could share one hot pot instead of each ordering our own. That alone would’ve saved us money and prevented food waste.
I ordered the vegetable broth with added beef—most of the soups are seafood-based and I wasn't in the mood for that. My girlfriend had the kimchi broth with seafood and pork. She thought it was pretty good. Overall, the flavors were fine, but nothing blew us away.
If you're looking for a decent hot pot spot, it's worth trying—just be sure to ask questions when you go in. A little more customer orientation would really elevate the...
Read moreI’m from out of town and had to drive through the area, which is frequent for me. I had been craving hot pot lately as I don’t have any where I live. I found Tasty Pot online, saw that they were new, and figured I’d give them a shot. My boyfriend and I were so happy we did! The lunch prices (and dinner) are wonderful for all the food you get! We split the miso and had a full container of leftovers. We even received complimentary iced teas that were so good! The taro is amazing as well. The hot pot was so flavorful and filled to the brim with so many delicious goodies! Things we have never tried and we didn’t have a single thing we didn’t like. We left very satisfied but not feeling like we had over eaten. I will say that the mild spice is more of a medium level, so if you are lacking spice tolerance, definitely get no spice and use the provided chili oil instead. Our server was super friendly and helpful. We will be making this a regular stop when...
Read moreWe had a sudden craving for Hot Pot, did a general search in the area, stumbled upon this place, and decided to try it out! We were not disappointed. The service is amazing, so attentive, you get black/green tea with your meal, and the staff is incredibly nice. They allowed us to modify the broth in one of the hot pots. Each one comes with so many vegetables, meat, seafood, etc. The sauces on the table make it super convenient to flavor each bite but you can also choose a broth with more flavor out of the options. When the pot gets too hot, you can put out the flame easily by yourself and they'll light it again if you want to reheat (didn't find this was necessary, as it stayed hot the entirety of the time we were eating). I would 100% recommend this place to anyone, even if you've never tried...
