We recently visited the bar during a brief stay in Paducah to sample the nightlife offerings downtown. When we walked in and sat down, I happened to see a bottle of bourbon that I haven’t seen in a while due to apparent issues at that distillery ( Weller) the bottle was hidden behind a container full of straws. I inquired about it, at which the bartender promptly told me that it is trash and he put it there because no one wants it and there was no room on the shelf, that there were much better options at that price point and people only like it because of the nostalgia associated with a name. After ordering what wouldn’t be considered trash by them, a frozen coke cocktail, the bar tender refused to acknowledge us again and sat at the corner of the bar speaking to locals and recommending a rosè to them. We had to wait 20 minutes before asking the bar back to cash us out. I have been in the high end service industry for over a decade now and one thing I have learned is that even if you do not necessarily agree with a customer, you do not outright belittle their preferences and talk down to them in the manner that I experienced.
