Black Bart's Brunch — Restaurant in Pagosa Springs

I hate to hate on any place of business, but this was the worst food I've ever had and one of the worst experiences. One of our waitresses told us the lemonade was all natural, and after it came, she pointed out the glitter inside (edit: I did not realize the lemonade was made with natural glitter, thanks for the clarification in your response here). While the lemonade had an ok flavor, we weren't looking for something like that, which is why we asked.. Those tiny lemonades that we didn't even drink cost a lot. They started bringing our food out and realized we ordered the fried chicken, not grilled. Then they had to go cook the correct order, taking quite a while for everything (edit: I meant the overall experience taking a while, not the second time you made the food). When they brought the correct one out, all the chicken was burnt and really tough, very hard to chew, with 2 way too huge pieces of burnt fried chicken on a bun. They brought out 2 waffle and chickens for the kids when we only ordered 1 for them to split. I think they took one off after we told them that.. But we spent $65 there and it wasn't even close to worth it. It was also really loud and not much room and the outside looks like a rundown house, so that's why I put 1 star for the atmosphere. We only had 2 adults and 2 small kids and the ticket was $65... crazy. Edit: They DID actually give a refund to me and for that I am grateful. But I won't be dining here again because we just did not have a great experience. Maybe it was an off day because the other reviews are good. But even in the other review pictures, the chicken...

Burnt my sandwich twice, then threatened to call the police when I said I didn't want his burnt food.

The chicken was definitely burnt - I know because I tasted a terrible bitter taste when I bit into the hard black parts of the chicken. When you asked how the food was, I said it was a little burnt, whereupon you insisted on bringing me another sandwich, which I politely asked you not to do. So you brought me another sandwich, identical to the last one, which I was aware of because I TRIED a bite and still didn't like it (I wonder, did you or your husband TRY any of the food in question?). When I asked for the check so that I could leave, your husband aggressively tried to stop me and make me eat another sandwich - which was of course very upsetting. Then, he yanked away the sandwich and my mostly unfinished coffee (the coffee was actually quite good, even though it was served in a paper cup). When he paid no attention to me when I said "that's my coffee," I increased my volume until he heard me and gave it back - at which point he threatened to call the police on me and I left the establishment, utterly disgusted with the food and the behavior of you and your husband.

Several of my friends have had similar experiences in this restaurant as well. They say that the older tattooed woman behind the bar is sullen, lazy, and rude and that the cook has a nasty beard that he doesn't wear a net over.

They won't be eating there again, and...

A new hidden treasure.

We have owned a home in Pagosa since 2007 and stay periodically throughout the year. The construction downtown has made it more difficult to dine out this summer, but I implore you to fight through the construction zone maze and traffic and have brunch at Black Bart's.

My wife and I ate there this morning and would rate it even a bit higher than a "5" because of the service and food.

Brunch is a little hard to come by in Pagosa. Black Barts now makes it fun. The food - we had a bacon and egg bowl, bacon egg and cheese waffle sandwich and one of their specialty waffles - was all top notch. Each item was cooked to perfection and tasty. They have a menu with such a wide variety of options that we can see ourselves coming back weekly for a very long time.

The service was even more notable. We sat outside and there were 2 servers for the outside patio. They worked as a team with each of them connecting with us twice, ensuring they took our orders and served us in a timely manner. They also had a refreshingly positive attitude and you could tell they enjoyed what they were doing.
