I first happened upon Pagosa Springs (as it was called then) in 2013, and it was a revelation. An amazing oasis of tranquility and beauty. So I was super psyched when I knew I'd be traveling through the area again. I made this a focal point of my vacation.|First, there's no doubt the staff is very friendly and accommodating, and very proud of the recent and ongoing expansion. That being said -|In the 12 years since my first visit, they acquired adjoining property and built a hotel, spa facilities, and a variety of other scaled-up services. They put a lot of money into improvements, but I did not feel my experience was improved at all. Quite the contrary. The original area (still connected to the new property) seemed to have fallen out of favor and has been neglected. Cracks in the concrete, exposed plumbing, lack of attention to upkeep, I suppose in favor of the efforts toward the shiny new expansion. I should mention, I believe the new facilities have been open for less than a year.|The new area (and I only availed myself of the tubs and a massage) was not a comforting oasis. The surrounding commercial properties have been built up and wedged in and they intrude on the view from most of the tubs. The property itself is not well landscaped. Rocks, dirt, concrete and scrub brush are abundant. Maybe that's on their to-do list, to landscape. It needs to move up on the list. There was no organic feel to this space. Soaking in hot mineral water is very nice, but I was excitedly looking forward to temporarily removing myself from the gritty demanding outside world, and that didn't happen here. I sat in a hot one, I sat in a cooler one, I sat in the neat little grotto and after an hour or so I was done.|I turned my optimism to my massage. There is a menu of massage options depending on what your body might need. None of the specialty offerings were quite what I wanted to I opted for a "general" relaxing massage and assumed I could talk about target areas with my MT when I got there. The room had industrial sized fans running in it to keep it cool (I suppose AC is also on their to-do list) so there was no calm tranquility. I listed a few target areas that needed attention, as I'd been traveling on a motorcycle for 3 days. My therapist then set about to her standard practiced methods and areas, with no evidence that she'd even heard my requests for neck, shoulders, lower back. I get professional massages regularly, so I know what one feels like. This wasn't that. After the massage I went back out to the tubs, but felt no real interest in continuing. I showered, dressed and left.|Ultimately it was not a bad way to spend half a day. It was nice to come off the road and slow down. And maybe my expectations were too high, based on my memories of my first experience there. My first time, I felt connected and organic. This trip felt sterile, sparse, transactional. I really hope they have a more zen-like environment planned for the near future.||Cameron|Chalfont,...
Read moreMy wife and I stayed at the resort twice in May 2025. We spent 4 nights in the Deluxe wing and two nights in the new main building. We wish we could give you and unqualified 5 stars but we have some feedback that would make it 5 stars for us.
THE GOOD--GREAT ACTUALLY The location and layout is marvelous, beginning with the Mother Spring and continuing throughout the property. You have done a great job building this resort and keeping it impeccably clean. Very nice touch to have the Kindness Practice at the Mother Spring each afternoon. The entire team there is kind, cooperative and helpful with one exception noted below. From check-in to pool maintenance to housekeeping and security, everyone was kind and helpful. Special recognition to Leslie at the front desk; Luz in Housekeeping and Erin in the SPA. The inclusiveness of the wellness classes. That is a first class touch!
THE BAD Really guys, no dresser drawers in the Main Hotel rooms? We were in 1212. Easy fix: install a dresser under the high wooden bench.
THE UGLY Mattress quality in the Deluxe wing. Silly to soak and spa all day and have it all unwind in bed at night due to soft, lumpy mattresses. We were in room 100. We liked the room layout but on our return chose a main hotel room for the mattress quality but as stated, did not like the smaller, dresser--less, layout, Luz told me you are replacing mattresses in the older wings, so well will look forward to those next time.
THE STUPID My wife and I came out of our Spa treatments and relaxed in the indoor pools and then she decided to return to the outdoor pools to soak, but forgot her shoes. If I had not been there to open the door, she would have had to walk around and up to get into the Spa again and then go downstairs to get the shoes. For us, that is nothing short of STUPID! You deliver a luxury spa experience and then require customers to run around to get back inside? Hardly a luxury experience! I spoke with Sharon about this and she insisted this was for our benefit to protect our Spa experience because when you opened the new wing, you had a lot of people wandering in and out. I understand and support the need to protect the space for Spa customers and suggested what to me seems like an easy fix--install a smart lock on the door leading out to the pools and give each spa customer a key card for the day so they can come in and out at their convenience. My impression was that Sharon was fixed in her view and did not want to hear it!
All in all, I heartily recommend people come and stay here, but be aware of the items above in arranging your room choice and I really hope you make the spa...
Read moreWe were really disappointed with our stay here. On arrival we were met by the nicest lady at the front desk. We were early, as we arrived in town 3 hours earlier than expected. She said our room wasn't ready but she would call us when it was. She was so nice and we totally understood and had no problem with this. We walked around and returned to the lobby at 3:35 pm and I noticed it was a different lady at the desk. I wondered if maybe they forgot to call us if our room was ready. So I approached and inquired again. This time it was a totally different experience. The lady was snippy and had a bad attitude. She said they'd call us when it was ready. I asked if they'd have it ready in 25 min and then she got really rude informing me that check in began at 4 but wasn't guaranteed then. I told her the 2 emails I received said 4pm and she proceeded to try to talk down to me and that I was wrong. (I am attaching photos of the emails showing that I am in fact correct. We continued to wait when I heard her raising her voice at another guest and it getting heated. I was finally given keys to my room. I asked the name of the rude woman and was told it was Tara. She absolutely ruined my experience here. She should not be let anywhere near customers and not allowed to have any interactions what so ever with the public.
Now, I wanted to surprise my wife and purchased an upgraded room. The room total for 1 night was just shy of $600. For that price, I feel someone should have taken our luggage to our room. But nope, after traveling, it was up to us to lug all our items to our 3rd floor room from the parking lot. I might add that at the main building, there is no place to pull up close to unload. The parking lot was approximately 75 yards front the front door.
Next we went to the pools to soak. They were amazing. We started to get hungry, so there is a building by the pools that serves food. A chicken sandwich and fries were $28.... ummm, no thank you, not for basic pool food. We changed and left the property for dinner and had a wonderful meal elsewhere.
The room was clean and very nice. However, in the bathroom of a $600 night room was single ply sandpaper that was supposed to be toilet paper.
Save your money and stay elsewhere, if you want to soak in the pools, just buy a day pass and sleep at another place.
We will definitely not be returning. Other places we stayed on this trip to Colorado were wonderful. This was the one place we were so excited for it was a...
