We recently visited Kao Gang and here’s our detailed take on the food, service, and overall experience.
🌟 Ambience & Service
The ambience was clean, modern, and comfortable—definitely a plus. The staff was friendly, helpful, and attentive throughout our visit. They offer five spice levels, which is great for people who like to customize their heat. However, despite the good vibe and service, the food quality and freshness left a lot to be desired.
⸻
🍟 Fries – 8/10
Surprisingly good! Crispy, well-seasoned, and served hot. A solid appetizer to start with.
⸻
🍗 Wings – 9/10
One of the highlights of our meal. Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The sauce on the wings complemented the spice level well. Highly recommend.
⸻
🍲 Clear Soup (Chicken & Shrimp) – 10/10
Absolutely delicious. The broth was clean, flavorful, and comforting. Generous amounts of tomatoes, mushrooms, and vegetables made this dish feel hearty yet light. Perfectly balanced.
⸻
🥟 Chicken Dumplings – 1/10
Extremely disappointing. The filling lacked flavor and tasted off. Worse, the dumplings were undercooked, which made them nearly inedible. Would not order again.
⸻
🍚 Chicken Fried Rice (Sticky Rice) – 5/10
Mediocre. The rice was too sticky and clumpy, which ruined the texture. It lacked seasoning and felt bland overall. A forgettable dish.
⸻
🥗 Poke Bowl (Salmon, Lobster, Squid, Seaweed, etc.) – 4/10
This dish looked promising but fell flat. The sauce was not tasty, and the seafood didn’t feel fresh. The ingredients just didn’t come together, and the texture was off. Needs improvement in both flavor and freshness.
⸻
⚠️ Overall Comments: • Food freshness was a major concern. • The clear soup and wings were excellent. • Most other items, especially the dumplings and poke bowl, were either poorly executed or felt stale. • Ambience and service were great, but that alone can’t carry the experience.

⭐ Final Verdict:
Kao Gang shows potential with a few standout dishes, but overall, the inconsistency in quality, flavor, and freshness makes it hard to fully recommend—especially at their price point. Would revisit only for the...
Read moreCalled ahead to ask if we could dine in—an hour and 15 minutes before closing, according to their posted hours on Google. We were told no, they’re “almost closed.” Strange definition of “almost,” but fine—we started looking elsewhere. Then, surprise: they called us back a few minutes later saying we could come in after all because another table had just walked in. That should’ve been the red flag. Got to the restaurant about an hour before closing, and right from the start, we felt rushed and unwelcome. Attitude was off—short answers, minimal engagement, and we were basically pushed through the meal like we were an inconvenience. Food came out fast—too fast—and not in a good way. We ordered appetizers, main dishes, desert ( mango sticky rice).and everything came out almost the same time.By the time we got to the dessert, the sticky rice had been cold, ruining what should’ve been the best part of the meal. When we asked them about that all they said is cause we came at closing time so they have to serve everything like that not even an apologize..Rushed service, no refills, no check-ins, just side-eye and attitude like we were ruining their night by simply existing.
Despite the poor service, we were still hit with an automatic 20% service charge. It’s frustrating to be forced to tip for service that felt cold and dismissive. I understand everyone wants to go home, but if the business gave us a call to come to dine in servers should treat us with respect, not like we begged you guys for a favor….I guess they do not care cause they will get the tip no matter how shitty service is.
We left feeling irritated, disrespected, and ripped off. Save yourself the money and the mood-killing experience—go somewhere that actually wants...
Read moreI would give this place a 0 if I could. The food was meh, our waitress tried walking away from us as I was talking to her, she never check in on us we had to ask another waiter to refill our drinks. And worst part of all was THE CHECK. I got handed my check and put my card inside and left a small tip considering the service wasn’t that great and we felt like we had to multiple times call over the waitress. I went to the bathroom and when I came out the waitress pulled me aside and slammed my receipt on the table and started demanding that I give a higher tip. When I told her I left a tip already and that’s how much I wanted to give she was unsatisfied and got the manager. Who than told me it’s mandatory to give 18%, when I told him that the receipt or menu does not state that he pulled out a menu and covered the part where it says”party of 4 or more” must tip 18% or more. When I told him to move his finger he told me no so I pulled the menu and saw that he was hiding the party of 4 or more. I was a party of 2. Not to mention the manager asked me where I was born because he would like to teaching me “tipping culture”. I found this completely inappropriate as I wear the hijab (religious head covering). The manager also said if you don’t want to tip you have to do take out. That is absurd as everyone deserve an in dinning experience. The manager than also said smile you are on camera and kicked us out. I would never come back to this place, despite the horrendous service the food was terrible as well. Not to mention when I got home I threw up , and felt very sick. Definitely...
