We’ve dined at Freddie’s several times now, and each time has been an excellent experience. The restaurant is welcoming and comfortable. Matthew, who greets you upon arrival, is friendly and efficient in explaining the specials, bringing you cocktails he prepares at the bar, and taking your orders. Better still, he paces the arrival of the courses in perfect fashion. Chef Freddie comes to the tables to check in several times to ensure your satisfaction.
The menu offers a wide range of options while being reasonably sized-- there are about 5 options each for the starters and main courses, with the addition of 1 to 2 specials for both of those courses. We’ve sampled the majority of those options in our several visits and have yet to be disappointed by any of the choices we’ve made. The onion soup, escargot and mushroom strudel are particularly memorable, as each was delicious. The main courses we’ve had have all been beautifully presented and perfectly done, from the elk medallions to the bone-in pork chop. We’ve especially enjoyed the chef special cassoulet prepared with venison sausage. The wines offered by the glass and by the bottle show a nice range of styles and regions that pair well with the entree options offered. The desserts are terrific too!
Overall, the atmosphere is a casual, but the food and service are at the level of fine dining. The team at Freddie’s clearly is interested in providing a top-notch experience, which they do. A highly recommended restaurant in...
Read moreNo, no, no and no. We had such a disappointing and frustrating experience that some of these reviews must be fake. Let's start from the place. The dining room is a tiny rectangular room with no charm. There is no bar (the bar is in a separate room), no kitchen, no nothing: the dining room is just... well, just a room. It has potential, given the mid century feel, the fireplace and a stone wall, but the lights are bright and the general decor is impersonal and cold.
That is what welcomes you when you arrive. The rest of the experience is no better. The service was not short of shocking. The waiter was allover the place. Took our order, then came out again to take the order for a second time. Then nothing for 45 minutes, until he came out again to confirm what we ordered. Major fail, especially considering there were a total of 4 tables.
It took exactly 70 minutes for our meal to come out, nobody showed up to explain what was happening or apologize. When we enquired, the waiter responded with a grunt.
The food was actually tasty (hence 3 stars and not 2), but very poorly presented. We had the pork medallions with mushroom cream and it looked like something you would get in a canteen or a self service restaurant.
Cherry on the cake: when we gave the credit card to pay, the waiter came back with the check, the pen to sign, but no credit card. And then he disappeared. I had to go track him down to have the card...
Read moreOMG Freddie's Kitchen at the retro Cole hotel is the best kept secret in Palm Springs! Do not be fooled by this little bistro's exterior for hidden within, is a wizard creating magic. Exquisitely crafted dishes with top quality ingredients, magical potions and sauces created by a master chef or magician, I don't know but you can be the judge. By chance we came across Freddie's Kitchen when we were traveling thru Palm Springs from San Francisco. We started off dinner with the Summer Tomatoes and Cesar Salad appetizers. The tomato appetizer could best be described as colorful gems of vine-rippened tomatoes bursting with sweet summer flavors, delicately strung together with hints of basil, virgin olive oil, balsamic vinegar, toasted pine nuts, while the crunchy emerald green Cesar Salad, tossed in a perfectly creamy acidity balanced dressing...I could go on and on about each unbelievable dish, the "to-die-for" desserts, the plates of amazing perfection, not to mention the thoughtful wine list, the attentive Marco ensuring one of a perfect evening, I won't... BUT YOU CAN THANK ME AFTER...
