Unfortunately, me and my group of BIPOC gay and bi friends were attacked by a group of women. The attackers continued to try and assault us after security was involved and yet they didn’t receive a fraction of the obscene language we received when we peacefully escorted ourselves out. After we were waiting for our ride share, the women pulled up to us in a black Jeep, got out of their car, and continued to verbally and potentially physically attack us. And again, Toucan’s security continued to defend this group. Although this space is welcoming to all people of all genders and sexual orientation, the security will quickly assume that men of color are causing issues. I challenge the management to increase their awareness of the lack of inclusion for people with very little spaces carved out for them. The harassment that the BIPOC gay men in our group experienced tonight was uncalled for. Not us being harassed at a gay club by straight women during pride month at a drag show at a gay club.
Edit: nothing but love to the queens that worked it...
Read moreThe comments here regarding straight women invading the space are ridiculous! Queer people everywhere are complaining of straight women invading our LGBT establishments all over the country. But it’s a free world, and they have a right to spend their money in a Queer bar and have fun just like the rest of us. What do you want the management to do, ban women from gay bars? Yes, many straight bars sadly do not offer us the same open-armed welcome, however we don’t need to fight back with being just as unfair. We need to be better, not the same. Perhaps bouncers can try to limit the amount of ladies coming in all at once for a bachelorette party, however we cannot discriminate in the same manner that many straight establishments discriminate against us. We need to be better. If you want more queer men in the establishment, then that’s the responsibility of queer men to actually show up! It’s a...
