it makes me sad writing this. I'm giving 3 stars because I've never had a bad experience until today, and today was a 1 star day, for me and my friend. so, they gave us one menu for the two of us, which we thought was weird. we asked our server for a few minutes to look over said menu and she came back 60 seconds later so we had to keep asking her to come back and she seemed annoyed. we ordered our food- i got a taylor ham, egg & cheese without the bread I asked for a hard egg, not fried, a side of tater tots. my friend got the meat lovers omelet, NO SAUSAGE because it makes her sick (we specified that a few times) with a side of tater tots. our food comes, I was given a fried egg, barely, and her omelet was filled with sausage. she spent most of the time picking out the sausage and I said screw it and ate the egg bc our server seemed annoyed with us. our food was 14.99 each, for half an egg, one piece of Taylor ham and like 3 slices of mozzarella cheese. it wasn't very good at all. and she spent all her time picking out sausage. honestly I think we didn't know what would happen if we did send it back. we also were asked if we needed a box maybe 20 minutes into our visit and looking at our plates, we clearly did not need boxes yet. really terrible service.
neither of us have ever had a bad experience. it's one of our favorite places to go when we're out this way. I see a lot of doctors in Allentown/Bethlehem and I usually stop here with my mom afterward or my friends after musikfest. today was a total bust. I understand everyone has bad days that's why I'm giving 3 stars for the other absolute stellar experiences I've had. I left not feeling well afterward and usually I leave with a big smile on my face and in my belly. the best part was the time I got to spend with my friend, that's always a blessing.
Anyway. if you go, I hope you have a great experience, and don't order what we did because it's a waste of money and not very good.
they also don't have any gluten free options, which is kind of a letdown. you'd think since it's 2025 gluten free bread...
Read moreToday was my first time eating breakfast at Diner 248. In the past, I have had lunch and dinner which were very good and the main reason for visiting for breakfast. Today’s experience was a mixed bag of good and bad. I think this was just me being at the right place at the wrong time. I can’t let this one experience deter me from future visits. I normally give places three chances before I outright avoid. Overall, I am willing to come back and try again.
Positive:
The omelette was made perfectly. This shows the experience of the Chefs. It was light and fluffy. All too many times, restaurants over cook the omelette or don’t put enough meat or cheese inside.
The place was very crowded so this tells me there is a lot of community support which is great to see.
The bathrooms are updated and clean. In fact, they have child changing stations in both bathrooms which is great for young families.
Negatives:
Upon walking to my seat from the hostess area, I could hear two employees near the bar/kitchen door talking loudly and laughing about swinger romantic relationships. This is not a good idea for a busy weekend morning with kids around.
The Diner has a bar. I asked the waitress openly what coffees do you have? I was told regular coffee. I was not offered the Irish Coffee which I discovered on the menu after my coffee order and would have been great. This should be a more prominent feature since there is a bar. This also might be an indication of training and missed cross sales opportunities.
The regular coffee had a burnt after taste.
There is open Wi-Fi but I could not log into it because it was only for Blue Ridge or Penn Teledata...
Read moreI visited this diner for the first time on the Fourth of July for what I thought at the time was a good place to eat breakfast. Turned out to be a regretful choice the moment my food was served. The experience was quite disgusting. A picture is worth a thousand words… I was so insulted to get served home fries with black gunk in it. I have never or would ever serve myself let alone others at home, food like that. The fact that the cook and waitress ignored the obvious and still served it like that, made me question if their food was safe and the restaurant’s food handling trustworthy enough to eat. Low standards in food prep, appearance and service were sketchy conditions enough for me to reject the food. My initial complained fell on deaf ears with no apology. Only just an explanation that they use russet potatoes. Like if that is an acceptable excuse. I just asked for the bill so I can leave and dine somewhere else. The waitress offered to wrap the rest of my meal to go but I told her not to bother. The trash would have been the appropriate place for this meal to have ended up at. Goodness even the plate they served my meal in was chipped. If you are thinking of visiting this restaurant be vigilant in setting standards on how you want your food to be prepared, cooked and served. Do not allow this restaurant to set low food standards for you. Not worth it. Pay for it and leave it behind. I doubt it very much if they would even want to wrap it up and take home for themselves let alone feed it to their families. That’s because they won’t eat...
